After all these years Miami finally has it's first gay pride. Maybe the world is really changing?

That's Miami BEACH along Ocean Drive, my love, not Miami. There's a big difference.

And you are correct. Please forgive me for being snippy. This was the first major Pride event for Miami BEACH in many years. The City of Miami couldn't hold a Pride in a million years, very homophobic and disliked by the gay community here.

I can't believe tha gay community is so submissive there. Well it is still the south. They should since the white party is so huge and brings so much money in the city.

It has little to do with the US South. The gay community in Miami & Miami Beach went into decline when 2 things happened: 1) The gay-owned properties that had been developed when Miami Beach was run-down were bought by straight business interests. An old pattern: what gays salvage, straights exploit. The same thing is happening right now in Key West.

    2) The Latino/Cubano culture that has taken over Miami is very homophobic. It's part of their machismo tradition, which is extremely intolerant of men who are in any way different from their heterosexual & Catholic view of the world.

I agree totally with Red Vespa's observations although I don't know if the Cubano culture has "taken over" Miami. Haven't they always been the predominant culture down there?

I've never seen a more cyclical place than Miami Beach. It's usually 1. Desolation 2. Gays move in and make it fabulous. 3. Straights see how fabulous it is and take it over from the gays 4. Trashy people(usually the last ones to the party) bottom it out. 5. Return to desolation.

    We're somewhere between step 4 and 5.
