Beaux and I have a new feature for the RJ forums: the EXPAND button

With the implementation of the EXPAND button feature, no more than the first 8 lines of a posting would be shown initially. 8 lines, tops! If you wanna see more, you click the EXPAND button. ... icon_biggrin.gif

This would cut down on the need to scroll past those long epistles that get posted...as if anybody wants to read somebody's long ass opinion. ... icon_rolleyes.gif

Hell, as a thread gets longer, people stop reading the short posting...and then stop reading any of the intervening posting....just jump to the bottom and post regardless of what's above. ... icon_evil.gif

Heh. If it cuts down on people quoting an entire post (thus wasting their 8 lines and 15 seconds)... then I'm all for it!

Hmmm... The only problem I can foresee is that people will read even fewer of the posts in the thread before posting and there will be even more posts saying the same thing.

Says someone who writes easily the longest posts on here. icon_smile.gif

Yeah, but I never (opps) quote what someone else said in its entirety, including them quoting me.
And I always read everything before i post.

As I say: we have 2 ears and one mouth so that we listen more than we speak.
Obviously, though, people have 10 fingers and only 2 eyes....

Cool So instead of seeing loads of dumb cat pics, we'd just see a subtle sign that the litter box had been stirred.

Oh yeah.. useful that will be..

a better option would be to turn off photos.. like the cats.. of course.. they add to any and every conversation far more then any other comment..

I think an "expand" button should do something else.

Hey! On top of that it would cut down loading times for computers that have limited visual memory to spare! (For instance, the abacus we have at work... lol)

Oh no, that's what the Ignore button is for. Here let me show you how it works ... icon_wink.gif

You mean like Facebook's "show older posts" thingie?

Ew. I hate that one. It means I have to wait a few more seconds again of loadtime before I can read the rest of the post. Sometimes I just won't bother.

Anyway, putting an 'EXPAND' button isn't really gonna solve people skipping posts or long posts for that matter. It will only guarantee that people won't read the intervening posts and only the beginning 8 lines.
