For the most part, it's a redundant brand anyway. If GM was smart, they'd further consolidate their lines.

It's not like they made anything worthwhile. Weren't they supposed to be the performance car brand of GM? After they killed off the Trans Am, they didn't have much to offer.

I have to say that I am bummed just a tiny bit. I really like the Pontiac G8 (Holden Commodore). And if they offered a manual transmission and V8 engine combo, even I would consider buying one.

I'm pretty sure Buick is gonna be next in line to die.

I wonder what will happen to the GM-Toyota joint venture NUMMI plant that makes the Pontiac Vibe.

If they are smart, they'll just keep it as a Chevy Vibe. GM doesn't offer anything else like it.

I don't see a problem with the Vibe either. They did something similar back in the 80's with the Chevy Nova (Toyota Corolla). GM discontinued the model, and it came back as the Geo Prizm a few years later. Simple change of the nameplate. No one noticed or cared. icon_lol.gif

Well, I guess the replies above pretty much explain the death of Pontiac. I'm sorry to see it go, just because it was around so long, and produced a few good models over the year. Never owned one or wanted to.

Holden-sourced cars might have been a way for Pontiac to finally stand apart from Chevy....just like the Opel-sourced cars for Saturn.
Too little, too late, I guess.
    I'm bummed....for some reason.

(And I'm kinda surprised Buick didn't already get the axe in lieu of Olds)

So Pontiac is now in the same league as the Oldsmobile. Sorry to hear it - however I haven't seen a Pontiac or Oldsmobile to match the great late 60's. Younger guys - you've missed a lot of thrills - the kind of fun you get from the awesome GTO and Olds. 442 models from 1965 until 1970. Ever had a car accelerate so fast your head gets slammed into the head rest? Not likely the same as these terrific cars.

Even though I am guilty of switching over to European cars years ago, I still wish I had a 67 442, and my first car back again, which was a prime 67 GTO.

I liked the new GTO they came out with a few years ago. It was a fastcar the only problem was it looked like a ford probe sort of. Im guessing Mercury is next and we will see the GMC line and Chevy lines combined. Im hoping Chrysler goes down a few notches too, all of there cars are pretty crappy as well. Especially the Chrysler line. When I was looking for a new truck a few years ago I recall the dodge truck looking all plastic on the inside. Not to impressive.

ok this is actually a smart idea, and while they are at it, rid yourself of Buick, the old folks can lease a caddie if they cant buy one, they will prob die b4 it is up anyways. Oh and Ford, my favorite Automobile company, DROP MERCURY or get some unique vehicles, what a stupid line!
