I was a big fan of the Amazing Race, but stopped watching after the third season. I watched last night's episode of the Amazing Race 14 and got sucked back in. They are down to the last four teams, and one of them is a very sexy 23 year old man
    855.jpg
who is competing with his wonderful mother. They show focuses on the fact that he is deaf, but he is also an openly gay man. Have any of you been watching this season? Are there any other Luke fans on here? I'm really hoping he and his mother win this season.

How do you know he's gay? I mean, I suspected strongly but did you read somewhere that he's out?

This is from an interview of one of the cast members:

" ....he also said that Luke Adams wanted to be identified as gay on the show. After Luke “found out that Mike and I were being billed as gay, he wanted to be billed as gay,” but a producer said—and this is Mel paraphrasing a conversation he had with an unnamed producer—‘No, we’re establishing you as what we want you to be established. He’s established as deaf. You’re established as gay, so don’t be interrupting what we're trying to do here.’”

Mel adds that “they were very clear about not wanting to muddy the waters by bringing in another issue.” That seems pretty consistent with what The Amazing Race does: it focuses on a single characteristic and runs with that the whole season, and never really lets us get to know someone beyond that."

I'm a big fan of Amazing Race. At first I was pulling for Mel and his son to win. Now that they're gone, I guess I'm favoring the two attorneys (brother and sister).

WHAT? Who could hate Mel White? He's the head of Soulforce and all about acceptance and love for all. Was it that he made Jerry Falwell look even worse than Jerry Falwell already did himself (see Mel's book - a wise look at the reality that is the anti-separation-of-chuch-and-state nuts)? I reference on Falwell:

he didn't "hit" Kisha. He reflexively held his hand up to block her. You would too if you were deaf and all of a sudden somebody ran up behind you and pushed you. Remember that a deaf person would be more startled because they don't hear the auditory pre-warnings. Besides, Kisha's a bitch.

I was a fan of them until the pitstop when Mom decides to defend her son against the girls who were laughing when he was upset. She got all indignant about Luke suffering all his life with people laughing at him because he is deaf. That clearly was not the case here. In fact, when some people had gotten angry with me, I laughed at them because what they were saying was ludicrous. Which is what happened here. I DON'T want them to win now because mom used her son's deafness as a crutch and Luke milked it when he went off crying.

I want the attorney's to win, the brother and sister.

Congratulation to Luke and his mother Margie for coming in a very impressive third place!
They just did a great interview with AfterElton.com.

    http://www.afterelton.com/TV/2009/5/amazing-race-margie-luke

"It was the gayest season ever of The Amazing Race, and also one of the best ever. Coincidence? I don't think so. There was father and son Mel and Mike White, who are both gay; sisters Kisha and Jen, (Kisha is a lesbian); one person who apparently isn't out of the closet; and, finally, Luke Adams and his mom Margie.

Luke and Margie were the only team with a gay member to make it to the final three, and while they didn't quite make it over the finish line first, they ran an impressive race — especially considering Luke is deaf, a potential drawback in a race where quick communication can be vital.

While the show never identified Luke as gay, this 24-year-old Coloradan is out and proud — and especially proud of the fact that he's the youngest gay man to ever make it to the final three. There were a lot of firsts on this season of The Amazing Race, but I'll let Luke tell us about them later. He is the resident TAR expert, after all."
