I think it would be great if Real Jock would create an iPhone app. There are a few programs out there that provide you with workout routines and ability to track your weight and workouts. But, I would much rather see an app created by such a great site as Real Jock. What do you guys think?

there is cornering a niche market.. but then there is just cornering nothing

What I'd like to see is a site built with smaller screens in mind

I would actually pay for an app like that. There are a couple that already exist for tracking workouts, but if they could link it to the forums that would be great too. So I could tool around on the app while I wasn't at the gym.

Well the world isn't just IPHONE you know....
I have the Google phone and I want an app too! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

As of now I find it terribly hard to navigate this site on my phone. If I do an RSS feed of the forums it is all over the place and a mess...

Yeah I guess I would too, but since I haven't paid anything to join this site already, would that make me by default a supporter if I paid to download this app?

None of us is a supporter, however we are willing to pay for an RJ app we can use on our iphone. Being that said I believe theres a potential market for RJ on this. You just have to browse a few profiles on here to realize how many users own an iphone.

I dont think those who pay only once for an app would qualify as supporters though since real supporters pay monthly.

For those who "hate" the phone this will be absolutely irrelevant obviously, but that doesnt change the fact THERE IS a very good opportunity for RJ on this idea. It will have an adjacent source of income(with a single tap on the buy button RJ will be getting money on a second) and it will increase customer satisfaction which translates into popularity of this website which directly translates into an increasing number of potential supporters.

IMHO the forums could use a general overhaul in favor of a more common open source version that is more feature rich. All you'd need to do then is to install a template or plugin for mobile devices.
A forum interface combined with a workout log or tool might be a cool app. Make it so!

I'd agree, but I have to admit, I like the simpleness of these forums there aren't buckets of features that aren't used.. but I Would like to see the forum made available more to smaller screened devices.

I could see this place working well with a custom skin on VB though hmmm

It's not as friendly as on a laptop, but you can access RJ on the iPhone. I even added an icon:

The number of replies on a thread that belongs to a forum where less than a 5% of the total registered users on this website even bother to visit is not measurement whatsoever of the potential success of an iphone app.

oh its a good marker considering that all the responses here in favor wouldn't even register a percentile for the forum users

If you made your point yelling at the top of your voice, red faced and naked I'd be persuaded.

Seriously though, it might be a cool thing to do but I suspect the RJ team already has their hands full with the site as it is.

Everyone with an iphone who's answered to this thread is willing to pay for it and not a single user who owns an iphone has posted against the idea; plus, those who dont own the phone would like this idea available for their own handsets. 100% of positive responses is a pretty good number as far as Im concerned.

lmao, well thats one of the reason why probably many wont even bother to say anything...I admit I read this thread like 6 times before I decided to say something, I was more like "who cares...RJ won't spend their time on that anyway".

I think most of you are assuming that RJ has a Mac somewhere in their office. The iphone dev kit only runs on a Mac. If RJ is a Linux shop or a Linux shop with Windows workstations, then they're gonna have to go out and buy a Mac. Plus, it's $99 a year to be in the program.

I'm not sure sure there's enough interested members to get a good return on investment. And add to the fact that apps are pirated almost as soon as they're introduced. Even the crappiest 99 cent apps get ripped off these days. icon_lol.gif

And as others have said, the iphone isn't the only phone out there. The RJ tech team just needs to make the site more mobile friendly, in general. Or at least the parts that pertain to workout plans.

Oh I'm looking forward to it.. I stupidly got a two year contract but if the new iphone comes out with just a few rumored things that iphone 3 software doesn't implement anyway, I'm going to have to break contract to upgrade.. otherwise Ill be sticking with the 3G one

    youre part of that 100%

ps: I thought the new iphone was more about software than hardware. Hopefully that's the way it is, cause im sticked with a 3 year contract and even if I got the iphone the first day it came out, that hasnt even been a year yet...
