Women need to stop lying to themselves, quit complaining, and get off their fat asses and go exercise.

I'm growing tired of women (and some men) constantly complaining about their weight... and then saying things like "it's not fair... men lose weight so quickly. i've been dieting for months, blah blah blah"

I might suggest "well, how about you go exercise? That's how i stay trim."

And the typical attitude is that exercise doesn't really work... maybe this is because TV is constantly selling women weight-loss methods that reinforce laziness?

If you want to lose weight, then burn more calories. It's that simple.

Well your fighting city hall on this one..... in our straight culture, women tend to be more "aware" of their bodies than men... and are more into diets than most men. People in general want to take the easy route to achieve their objectives (and these companies make money from it). I agree, you need to reduce intake and increase activity..... but most people, men or women don't want a "lifestyle" change ... they want an easy fix.

Diets don't work without exercise, unless it's one of those programs where you buy their food and spend a fortune. But, most people are too lazy to exercise. Also, if somebody does lose weight on a diet, they don't stick with the plan that worked. They think that because they've lost weight, they can go back to the trough. Getting used to some kind of exercise that you like doing is the cheapest, easiest way to get in shape and stay in shape.

Most people will cheat too often on their diets and claim it doesn't work. The bottom line is everyone is looking for a pill they can take to achieve the results od diet & exercise

If they want an easy fix, they should just put petroleum behind their teeth and just vomit.

They've been doing it; it's an "easy fix".

And I'm not talking about just women; this goes for men as well. Or go get yourself a liposuction, or get yourself that nifty little surgery to cut your stomach in half and so forth with other easy fixes. But this does not HELP them in the long run for its quick fixes; they just don't want to invest that kind of time to exercising and eating right.

They'd rather use it on watching their shows (or other sedentary hobbies), downing their crap food and proud that they got that surgery... till they get fat again.

I have a lot of female friends and acquaintances, and when I think about it, they are all shapes and sizes. And, thinking about some of the stories they have told me, it’s not as easy or safe for women to be athletic as it is for men.

    - It’s not safe for them to be out running or walking alone when it’s dark.
    - During daylight hours they get yelled at, whistled at, and honked at by men passing by in their cars.
    - At the gym, the fit ones get hit on – relentlessly in some cases – and the fat ones either get ignored or get a lot of disdainful looks. The gym is not a welcoming environment for them.

OP, In your profile, the first thing you mention about yourself is that you’re a nice guy. How often are you nice or helpful to the fat women at your gym? Or when a fat person is talking to you "i've been dieting for months, blah blah blah" and you're being so 'nice' as to listen to them - have you ever offered them a free pass to your gym and helpful ideas on what exercises they could try to make the pounds easier to lose?

LOL - I've never heard of that one before - I'm going to suggest that to my co-worker that's always complaining. Her idea of exercise is 10 minutes on the eliptical, 10 minutes of stretching and 30 minutes in the jacuzzi........"I go to the gym every day and just can't lose weight".

ironically, my friend explained it to me the other night. it partially has to do with how our bodies are structured, mostly with lean muscle. Men have more, and therefore its possible for them to lose weight quicker... women just need to do light strength training too. at least thats how my friend nikki explained it to me the other night (she's slim and trim and exercises)

Men can naturally have a body fat percentage of 7-10 percent women are closer to 16-20%. men have higher levels of testosterone allowing for greater muscle growth. increased musclegrowth means your body burns more calories so you can eat a hell of a lot more.

16-20% body fat for a woman is very low. That range is usually only found in female athletes.

General Body Fat Percentage Categories - American Council on Exercise
    Essential Fat: women 10-12% - men 2-4%
    Athletes: women 14-20% - men 6-13%
    Fitness: women 21-24% - men 14-17%
    Acceptable: women 25-31% - men 18-25%
Obese: women 32% plus - men 25% plus

True, but the trap for many people is that these legitimate challenges become convenient excuses for doing nothing about their weight.

I have lots of medical reasons for my own weight problem, from my medications to my basic health issues. So what? It just means I have to work harder. It's one of the reasons I joined RJ, to keep me motivated.

And if I'm overweight, which I still am, I don't expect any sympathy. Help perhaps, yes, but no pass. I accept the personal responsibility, blame no one else, try to do what I can to correct it.

I always answer for myself, and don't stand behind excuses and evasions. Perhaps that's a masculine trait that doesn't come easily to women, why they want to shift the blame and sidestep the issue.

Most women crave sweets more than men do.
So, they'll eat a bag of cookies or a tub of ice cream, and call it dinner.

icon_smile.gif Yes, you're quite right - that no doubt would make me feel good... happy... superior even! Instead, I think I'll head to the gym and say nice and encouraging things to all the fat people. Maybe that will help them to keep exercising...

Yes and I said women can naturally, and then stated the range acceptable for athletes of both men and women. there is no flaw in my argument or my information here.

Actually, you did not mention athletes in your original statement. So it seemed to me that you were implying that the body fat ranges you mentioned were normal for the general population, which, is not in fact, accurate.

read the statement again. Men CAN naturally have. Women CAN naturally have. The statement is true and accurate. your reading comprehension on the other hand appears not to be
