just a conversation post on wrestling/fighting seeing that it is a cool activity. do you think you can take the guy above you? ie...in a fair fight or wrestling match. what would make him tough as an opponent? since there is no post above mine, i think i could take anyone....LOL j/k

When it comes to wrestling I'm a pitbull...even as short as I am I'd love to take on any of the guys above me...especially Jock_1....hehe, You remind me of a buddy of mine back in high school that I used to wrestle with. Super athletic insanely handsome dude that looked like he was custom built. After the wrestling matches there would be nothing left in either of us- then he'd wait until we got to the locker room and he'd grab me from behind and squeeze/hug the shit out of me....his way of stretching out my back as he said. Made me wonder...but i had no complaints. Great times they were.

I think your main edge over me would be your height and upper body strength but thats nothing new to me...few times growing up did i ever compete in anything athletic with a guy my height...so bring it on my man!

My days of fighting are long over, actually (and thank God for it... I was a bit too big for my britches once upon a time). So I honestly don't know who I could take on anymore. And even if that were not the case, I have never won a fight in my life, though I started many of them when I was a young punk... so I think the answer would be "no" in my case.

Besides, I wouldn't want to fight Chungo44.... he seems like a really nice guy.

But I supposed if push came to shove....

Most people who haven't been trained - or who just participate in sporting martial arts, just aren't usually very good at fighting.

as far my competition above me. there is no doubt that rocco would be a tough draw. one good thing i have going for me is that we are the same size. in a fight his martial arts would benefit him alot, but i might have a shot if we wrestle.

AH... Wrestling and grappling is a HUGE part of Krav Maga training. In ninjitsu we did a lot of joint locking and ju jitsu. And i'm BENDY as all hell! A lot of wrestling holds and grappling techiniques don't cause me pain OR don't have enough "lever" creating ability to bother me and I can get out of them pretty quickly.

SO... i'd go toe to toe with you Jock_1. It would be an AWESOME bout for sure!

Pretty much. Our ground fighting instructor hated working on me because i would always end up tied in knots and be able to get out of it, even when i was pulled and twisted up like some flesh and bone pretzel.

With regards to all the guys above this post (as well the ones that may come below), I'd have to say "no." For instance, I weigh little compared to the strength of the guys here and would be an easy lift for most ("up and to the side we go...tralalala").

When it comes to matches, I am thus far a strictly defensive player / combatant; unless death or real severe injury is a possible outcome against me, I probably don't have any personal incentive to win (simply winning a match doesn't do it for me).

I am more limber than the average person (though not even close to Rocco's flexibility) and have some brachial dexterity, so I would frustrate my opponent with improvised locks and toe grabs. I also have a higher than average pain tolerance along with decent stamina. I would likely go toward a battle of attrition, with the possibility of a draw (unless my opponent is wasteful with his energy usage).

Now, if there was a real threat, I'd work toward going Hannibal Tyson on my opponent's face.

I agree, weight can be an issue if it is a large difference, just as height can also. sometimes you can overcome those differences by adjusting strategy. ie, work on a specific area, use speed, or endurance is key also. no matter what the skill level of the fighter, it is always a great chess match when 2 guys battle

i agree a fight is way different than a wrestling match. if you can land the first couple punches in a fight, you pretty much can control it. but in a wrestling match it can go back and forth alot during a match depending what kind of match it is

Diver looks really agile, so I don't think I could! All he would really have to do is put on that cowboy hat and smile and he would have me as putty in his hands anyways! I also know what he means by being a shorter guy and having to compete even harder. I had to prove myself every day when I was playing sports because I seemed to be the smallest guy in the class every year!

Last time I checked, the primary fighting styles used in the UFC, and MMA fights (Ring of Fire, etc..) are BJJ/wrestling, and Muay Thai, (mixed in with some other disciplines of course)... but primary striking is muay thai. This is because these are the most effective at doing one thing... taking someone out. Ever want to see some badass fighters, watch some thai fighting. Not disrespecting Taekwon-do because it's a beautiful art, but it seems to have lost it's way (along with most martial arts, including Muay Thai) these days in doing what it was originally designed for... to hurt someone, and to hurt them bad.

That being said, I train to win my fights, I train to hurt, and I train to hurt them bad.

KOgary, Taekwon-do has lost it's way in some places. When I say lost it's way, I mean it is taught for sport, and not as a martial art. Taekwon-do is designed to hurt, and hurt bad, and to kill, that is why control is a big part of our training. If we use full force when fighting you could hurt someone very bad or kill someone. We fight for fun, not to hurt, but in a real situation, we have the power and the technique to do what ever it takes. When training our power is tested by braking stuff, not on people.

You must be new to this site. I would say that all the regular guys on here know I am just messing with you too, so yes I know you are just messing

I'm a nice guy and I am proud to say I have never hit another man, only in Taekwon-do for fun, but if I had to I would.

We are the origin of the "fight in the dog" saying. No, I won't win every time, but I've pretty regularly taken down guys much larger than I am who "should" beat me. Not to say, of course, that I haven't also lost my fair share.

There's a kind of mind-over-matter power that the little guys who don't become pushovers tap into. That's how I singlehandedly lifted a steal framed car out of a ditch. Part of that mentality, of pulling out a win through willpower and adrenaline is never backing down, not thinking you can win but KNOWING you can win (even if you're dead wrong). It's not just false bravado, it's a way of approaching a challenge that lets you do more than your body might think it's capable.



That said, yeah, I could take NYSexy. As long as I could bring my legs into play before he got his arms involved too much.

And while I could take Diver if I got my hands on him, I bet it'd be far from easy. If he were the least bit slippery, it would be next to impossible....

I can usually take a guy up to 20lbs above me, but that of course depends on their fitness level. I've wrestled some guys who weighed 10 or so lbs. less and they were fierce competition. So many guys are big (from enhancements?), but not particulary strong for their size. Wrestling's great exercise, so I say in general bring it on
