At least two people were killed when a car crashed into the crowd at a parade with Queen Beatrix and the Dutch royal family, although no royals were hurt. Dutch police told the BBC it appeared to have been a deliberate attack. Unconfirmed reports said the black Suzuki injured 14 people. It crashed into a monument, narrowly missing an open bus carrying the royals. The Queen's Day parade was being held in the city of Apeldoorn, about 90km (56 miles) from Amsterdam. Police have not confirmed the number of casualties or commented on the reason for the incident. Dutch TV reports said at least two people had been killed and 14 others injured.

Latest news is 2 more have died from injuries icon_cry.gif

If you can stand the sight of blood the attacker is shown here. The open bus right behind him has the royals. He got very close.

He is probably a tea bagger who thought that it was a drag queen.

Who knows why crazies do what they do. Probably some festering, twisted reason.

The Dutch Royal Family is very popular, and the country as a whole is very happy. I predict he's just a nut, or had a stroke and his response was guided by police. Either way, a crazy situation. Maybe because they're cleaning up Amsterdaam?

    It actually not that funny,

5 people died, 6 are heavily injured and another 6 have light injuries, including children!
The whole country is upside down... Cant turn on the tv without having this on. This is a disaster for my country. Queens day is a day that the queen and her family reach out to the normal people, talk with them, spend time with them. That was changed today, They are now saying it will never be the same again. Ofcourse they also say that because it just happened, but that one guy can have so much influence on a whole country, is just not normal.

Also, they guy was hit by the economic crisis, he was unemployed cause he got fired and was about to get kicked out of his house, thats probably the reason why he did this...

I'm glad someone else said that first. I didn't want to sound heartless. The car must have been rapidly heading in the direction of at least one photographer. He has guts for standing and shooting.

It's so weird to see how people react. I suppose it happened so quickly, since looking in the background it looks like some people haven't even noticed. Sad event, either way icon_sad.gif

According to the news on NPR he tried earlier in the day to get past a barricade and was stopped by police. Apparently at that time he did not seem irrational enough to be detained.

Is The Netherlands not like Scandinavia or whatever European countries and not have a huge social security system that would prevent the man from going thru such an economic crisis?

Just because the government might still provide for your wellness doesn't mean life is good. A social system isn't going to solve your inability to buy material goods.

Of course just judging from this guys vehicle I'm not sure he was very wealthy anyways.... so who knows. Whack jobs are already calling it a Muslim attack or a government inside job to further the agenda of taking over daily life. Usual stuff.
