Ironic how someone started this exact same post, but in reverse. I'm moving from Austin to West LA and was hoping anyone who has actually lived in LA can give me some pointers, tell me about the culture, and the best place to live?

    Thanks guys.

I wish that I could help you on your move from Austin to Los Angeles. But I have not been to LA in over 15 years and I only saw small portions of that otherwise massive city. Wishing you the very best of luck on your move to LA. Hopefully it is a safe and troublefree move for you. Try to hook up with some of the LA realjocks for some valuable tips.

currently live in LA. been here the past 2 + years and absolutely loving it. however in terms of pointer, best place to live, and the culture, it all depends on what you're looking for. in addition, some of the choices on where you shack up could be predicated upon your budget and industry of work. got any more specifics to help us out with?

It really depends on your budget, where you work, what you like to do, etc. I generally prefer Westwood, Brentwood, Venice Beach, Santa Monica, but West Hollywood, Silverlake, some parts of West LA like Culver City, etc are also nice. If you have any specific question, feel free to ask, and I'll be glad to answer.

I'm working for a marketing firm and starting at like $90k a year, which is not bad in Texas, but I'm worried about how far my money will go in LA. Plus, I'm not good at money management or saving at all, so I'm just worried about being broke all the time lol.

Anyway, I keep hearing West Hollywood, but are there any other areas? I was looking at buying a property, but it's completely out of the question. It seems like you need to be making atleast $250k plus to even afford a house or condo in LA.

I'm just curious about the culture, because I haven't spent much time there or interacted with the residents and am curious how it differs from the rest of the country. Thanks!

The market is low right now, so you can find a decent condo in a decent area in the mid 400s, but it won't be in Westwood, Brentwood, etc. One thing I hate about LA is traffic, so living close to where you work and everything else is very important.
