I've done it, but I don't enjoy it. Part of going to a movie to me is sharing the experience and talking about it afterward.

    What about you?

I've only ever been to the movies once by myself. Never again!

I don't like doing much of anything alone - I just enjoy things more in the company of others. But, I realized that if I didn't want to miss out on a bunch of things, I needed to buck up and just do it.

After about two years of living in NYC, I finally took the plunge and went to a movie by myself. It wasn't the end of the world, so I did it regularly if no one wanted to see what I was in the mood for. It's still not ideal, but it doesn't bother me too much anymore. Outside of NYC, I've only been to one movie alone. It's more difficult in suburban (or island) locations to go alone because you're usually THE only single person. But, whatever. If you want to see the movie in the theatre, you gotta do it.

I haven't gone alone, but if its a movie I want to see, I would go alone... it shouldn't be a problem.

My bf goes to movies alone in the city where he lives. If there isn't anyone
available and he wants to see it...he goes.

Guess I am in the minority, as I prefer to go alone. I can live without someone talking on a cell phone, munching popcorn way too loudly, and the ultimate worst, telling me what is going to happen next on the screen. Maybe this explains why I have an extensive DVD and VHS collection of movies ( not to mention cocktails and the Pause buttonicon_wink.gif

Either way is cool with me, I mean heck you are there to watch a movie. Not talk to one another and what not. I still do it today and have had a bf forever lol.

I like to do this. I often like to see foreign movies, and movies that can seem depressing or challenging, and a lot of other people don't. If the movie is my choice, I don't have to worry that the other person might hate it.

I will admit, seeing a movie with other people who also want to discuss it afterward is the best. Sometimes, if the movie really makes you think, the conversation afterward is better than the movie.

Haven't ever. When I was younger the whole family (as in everyone - parents, us 2 boys, and my 4 sisters) would go to see the last show on the nearby cinema. I guess I'm used to having people to talk to inside the theater.

If I wanted to watch a movie alone I'll see it on the DVD player or on my PC (which I often do so now, since I'm watching a lot of gay interest films LOL).

That's what has made me think about it. The bf is out of town this weekend, and we're going out of town again next weekend. I want to see Star Trek, but I want to be able to talk with someone afterward.

I don't mind. With someone is nice, but I like my own company too.

I don't have any friends in real life that share my interests in comics and scifi.

I prefer to go with someone. I like to be able to chat about the movie afterwards. But I dont let the absence of someone to go with make me miss a movie. ... icon_wink.gif

I stopped going to the movies alone. Unless it is something I feel I really need to see like Watchmen for example I am content to wait and Netflix it when it comes out. I'd go with someone though.

I don't mind going to the movies alone at all. I often decide spur-of-the-moment to go to a movie, and just go cuz I have a ton of theaters within a mile from my house. It's definitely better going with someone so you can talk about the movie afterwards

I've always gone to the movies with my older brother; it's a fun experience afterwards to go into a restaurant chow and down and chat about the movie.

But now, it's just depressing to go by myself and it hurts to go even with friends since my brother has passed; that was our experience. I told myself to let that pain go and watch movies with my cousins, friends and my boyfriend. I'm not replacing my brother, just sharing that experience with other wonderful people icon_smile.gif.

::: cue stark cinéma verité music, and long moments of silence :::

    In a French accent, dramatically:

    Cold... I was cold...
    And so lonely.
    I was lonely,
    So very lonely.

    The other children,
They would throw biscuits at me.
    But always stale biscuits,
    So very stale.

    They kept the fresh ones,
    For themselves!
But all that hit me were the stale ones,
    So very stale.

    My life, was stale, too.
When I went to the cinema,
    It was always alone,
    So very alone.

And I would sit all alone,
Because I was with no one.
And no one would sit with me,
Because I was... so very alone.

    On the cinema screen,
    I would see... myself.
And I was no longer alone,
    So very alone.

    I was Jean d'Arc,
    And Madame Curie.
    A boy transformed, and,
    No longer alone.

But now, I am a man,
    No longer a boy.
And I go to the cinema, alone.
    So very alone.

I go to the Movies every Friday alone during the day. Its therapeutic and fun. I don't have to worry about if the person is liking the movie to, i could go and just enjoy.

I go to the movies alone quite often however I would never go on a Friday/Saturday night cuz that's just too depressing. I like going during a weeknight -- or during the day when I am off -- when the theatres are relatively empty to begin with.

Yes, I like going out alone icon_smile.gif I go to the movies, I go to coffee shops and just read the newspaper or check my email... or just have a cigarette and think about stuff.
People should learn to spend time alone, so that they get to know themselves better.. icon_smile.gif

Never been to the cinema alone, but don't think it'd bother.
