Should we take the time to welcome the new RJ members?

Recently there was a thread in which one of our more regular FORUM posters suggested we welcome a specific new RJ member.

What about all the other new members? Shouldn't we go out of our way to welcome them also? I know the list of new members that each of us receives is randomly generated, so if we all took the time to welcome the list in our newsletter, I just bet we'd find some new posters and create some new friends.

    What do you guys think?

I was the regular forum contributor who suggested we welcome this specific new member "Bakershow" to RJ. I had encouraged him to become a member.... and I think its good for him personally to be here.

Btw, it isn't the first time I've done this.. my good friend Hagan from Wichita also received a welcome from me in the forums. About 6 months ago I also
suggested that another friend of mine, Shybuffguy" from Salt Lake City be welcomed.... again after being encouraged from me to join this site.

I say yes....I think its the right thing to do. I value this site and want to share it with others.

When I join a site, I usually just dive right in and start posting.
    I don't need nor expect a welcome.
I guess I have the notion that everybody is automatically welcome.

It's a great idea. Generally, I am in the chatroom and when someone says they are new to the site, that person gets a good many welcomes.

Since HndsmKansan had encouraged this fellow to join, I can understand his introducing him to the group and soliciting a hearty RJ welcome.

So are you volunteering to play Gail Storm and serve as Social Director, welcoming the new members...and, no, I dont want to be ZaSu Pitts. Thank you very much! ... icon_rolleyes.gif

    I don't know,

I mean I never got one and there have been times that I feel like the wall paper or that kind of shit here. I've reached out so many time here on this site to other men only to be told fuck you , fuck off or too fuckin' ethnic/different what ever the shit it is. hell thats the fuckin reason why I don't come back too often or just "lurk" like many others.

In hindsight and to be politically correct yeah I would welcome the newbies JUST so that I would be a part of the solution than the problem...it'll be a while before my heart got into it but its like praying the rosarie right? you hope that it will happen and when a little bit does you go crazy that it did and think that your praying to divinity really meant something. Its good for the sole but the smirk and disbelief is still on my face due to how I've been treated or neglected or whatever ...doesn't really matrer...moving on.

Okay..but I vote for being a part of the solution. just my thought.

I never got a welcome.. I'd like to see if these people are going to add something to the forums and are not just here to perv at the eye candy before I give them a welcome.

So many RJ'ers but how many of us actually use this site for its purpose? and how many are here too treat it like an extension of gay.com..

Nothing wrong with being welcoming. Hell I would settle for not shooting the newbies down in flames the first time they post. Not everyone has my thick skin, or resilient ego.

There's also nothing wrong with just sending a private message to someone new. I would assume one of the reasons they include 20 random new members in the weekly RJ e-mail is so existing members can look for interesting new people.

A thread welcoming a new member is a bit odd. I'm not sure I see the point of it, even after reading the explanation above. Personally I'd be embarrassed if I was the subject of it, but that's just because I don't want the attention.

I was the one who said to invite new members on here to join the forums. Many of them are not aware of the forums, how they work how to use them. Kinda like condoms I guess. Usually when I am typing in forums I get a random IM and I invite them as well. Just as I was typing this I got an IM from harttrobbin, but I am off to bed so I couldn't chat, but I will invite him to talk in forums. He just hotlisted me and opened his private pics. I think it's a nice way to get people involved in RJ forums. New voices add to the forums and make them more interesting-Def.not a bad thing!
