    Story Highlights
Author Daniel Pink: Right brain skills will be crucial in coming age
Those skills include design, storytelling, empathy, creativity
Says left-brained skills --accounting, computer programming can be outsourced
Says it's harder to outsource creativity such as design and storytelling

"Winfrey: So you suggest that right-brain aptitudes, when complemented with left-directed thinking, can result in a whole new mind. Because we've entered a conceptual age, where meaning and harmony, design and purpose are going to be more significant to the world than formulaic thinking and activities. After I read your book, I thought, 'This is my time.'

Pink: That's how a lot of people have responded: that the world has come to them. In this country, the "smart" people have these logical, linear abilities, while right-brain people are often seen as flighty, spacey, artsy-fartsy."

Is this gonna be the "The Age of the Gay"?

Just because it's an 'Army of Darkness' doesn't necessarily mean it's not an aesthetically pleasing 'Army of Darkness'. icon_twisted.gif

    wish it were true...

until i can call "bob" in calcutta to explain to me how the alternative minimum tax will affect my excersized ISO's on both a federal and state level under ten minutes, we can still keep telling ourselves that.

but then again, who said accounting was a left-brain function..hi enron, lehman, worldcom, fannie, etc icon_twisted.gif

You need to get out of Manhattan for a while. At least get to Queens or something. icon_idea.gif

I always forget what part of the brain is supposed to do what. The right side of my brain is the most damaged, from motorcycle and military injuries, but even before they happened I was never the least bit artistic, anyway.

Does that make me less gay? I try to be logical and practical, though I adore art & music, have composed music and once was a competent pianist, prior to 1968.

But rule the century? Artsy types are too scatterbrained to ever rule anything. Contribute many things to life, yes, but organize and rule, never. They couldn't rule their way out of a paper bag. icon_razz.gif

icon_razz.gif I know, I know, but my literature professor kept hammering the importance of words.

pffffft the world will be ruled by those who are capable of using both.. seriously, if you are completely incapable of any inaginative thinking (and I don't mean poetry, or stories) if you are so lacking in any artistic talent that you can not even think up a sexual fantasy for your self, that you are incapable of even a smile..

    Your screwed..

There is no left nor right brain, they both work together be create you, who you are, you might not paint magnificent works of art, but, perhaps, you can come up with a new mathematical insight or develop some new machine, perhaps even just find love for another person..

These are not things that are done by people with no capability towards creativity.. we just need to broaden the idea of what creativity actually is instead of being so narrow.
