Pope Fester and all the other religious nuts have been sticking their noses into politics since the beginning of time. Somebody please tell me where there is a "political misuse of religion."

If it hadn't been for the Mormons illegally funneling millions of dollars into the YES on Proposition 8 campaign, it probably would not have passed.

Pope Nazi warns of political misuse of religion, that is the biggest laugh of the century. It would have been more accurate to describe it as religious abuse of the political process. But being the eternal hypocrite that he is, this statement does not surprise me in the least.

It's because he wants to be the only one to do it.

Like it, or not, secular government does not exist, even in those governing bodies that claim so.

False belief systems have been exempted, and influential, in governments for many centuries, and it's likely not going to change soon.

Here in The United States, many folks are now being turned off by the hatred, intolerance, ineptness, and just plain ass stupidity by folks who subscribe to false belief systems and how they try to impose and indoctrinate others to those absolutely silly beliefs. (Bill Maher talked about this last night.) Perhaps in 200 years, false belief systems will be behind us, but, I'm not sure that all men (and women) have minds that are strong enough to step away from false belief systems. Progress has been made, but, false belief systems are a cancer that will long remain in any government. The pope is speaking to the backlash causing abandonment of these false belief systems by many folks. The public view has changed, some, for the moment, where the false belief systems aren't being given as much notice as the past 8 years, but, they're still there.

It says in the link article that Christians (Roman Catholics) and Muslims worship the same God. Not true.
Allah is not the same God as the God of the Bible they claim to worship.
The Judeo/Christian God is a Trinity - Father Son & Holy Spirit.
Allah of Islam is a single entity who has no son.
One book I have on this Catholic/Islam relationship is by Dave Hunt, who wrote, "The Cup Of Trembling" a scholarly examination of Islam in relation to Catholicism. In it, the motives of the pope's predecessor, Pope John Paul, was revealed as twofold,
    a) The Vatican's intention is to take over the leadership of Islam. Not by force, but by a slow and gentle method of offering friendship and religious harmony. The question of the character of God is still an issue here. But both have a strong link which binds the two in agreement. That is the Islamic version of the mediatrix is Fatimah, daughter of Mohammed. The Moslems had set up a shrine to her at a town of Fatima in Portugal. Later, The Catholic popes, including the late Pope John Paul, make pilgrimages to the same shrine to honour the Catholic Virgin Mary. In fact, when the Pope narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at Piazza S. Pietro in Rome in 1982, he made the journey to Fatima to thank Mary for his deliverance.
In return, the pope had a vision from Mary, telling him that he was spared to bring all religions under his authority, in order to subject them under the motherhood of Mary, in reparation of her Son's pierced heart.
    b) The Vatican's intention is to take over ownership of Israel's capital, Jerusalem, especially the Old City, which is shared between Christians, Jews and Moslems. Their explanation is to "open the holy city to the world". But once the takeover is accomplished, the Vatican will have a much easier inroad into leadership of Islam, and Jerusalem would no longer be allowed to be capital of Israel, therefore taking over the governmental administration of Israel - with the intention of pushing that country out of existance and making the land Arab/Vatican controlled.

Excuse the hell out of me?
Kindly leave the Jews out of your sweeping statements. We don't believe in your "son" either. The Yahweh Jews believe in is a single entity who has no son too.

I don't want to get into a quarrel here - or we'll be the laughing stock of RJ!
Suffice to say that I fully agree that Yahweh is the name of God known by the Jews. But another of his names is Elohim - which is plural. (The singlular is Elohu). This becomes apparent in the Hebrew Old Testament where God says, "Let US make man in our image..."
"Let us go down and confound their language...
Isaiah was asked by God, "Who shall go for us?"
Psalm 2 says "Serve the Lord..kiss the Son...
Read the whole of the prophet Zechariah. Here he wrote that Yahweh will be sent by the Lord Almighty, and the Lord God Almighty will reign personally in Jerusalem...and they will see his hands and his feet pierced...

I am all for the Jews, I have a lot of respect for them. Almost the entire Bible was written by them (including at least two kings and a prime minister), that the Holy Land belongs to the Jews, and even the mosque over the Cave of Machpelah in Hebron testify of Israel.

Secularism does not equal absence of religion in politics. That would be an atheist society, not a secular one.

How can one deny religious people the right to political expression and maintain any pretense of democracy?

The key to what the Pontiff was talking about is understanding that religion ought not be used as a convenient excuse for violent political action ("Its God's will that so and so should die, that such and such country should be invaded, and so on"), not that religion ought not be used as a foundation for a political movement.
