I have been preferring doubles recently because I have an awesome partner. If is kind of nerve racking....you don't want to disappoint your partner, errors and such. But overall I like the camaraderie of doubles and the "we are in it together" aspect. I think for me it comes down to who you are playing with as opposed to the technical aspects of singles vs. doubles.

    What do you guys prefer?

Definitely prefer doubles because it tends to be faster, but a good competitive game of singles is fun too.

I prefer singles play. I have been playing since high school and I really like the situation where I have to depend on my own skill to win. It is great exercise and very much a mental game. I liken it to chess, which I also love, being able to pick apart your opponent's game. Nothing like it. Doubles is cool also, but I am not a good technician because of the singles mentality I have.

    And for Tuscongrad,

Welcome to the U.S. and Welcome to Real Jock!!

Until recently, I would have said singles. I felt that my net play was a liability, and my strengths ... court coverage and POWER ... translated more effectively to singles.

However, the league that I hit with plays doubles frequently and I've improved my net game, my reflexes, serve and volley game, etc. Besides, it's good to have a teammate who can break us out of those mental funks that we have on the tennis court.

Agreed, Chem on the net game. I'm not scared of the net, but being a base line player, my net game is not always where it should be to be an all around good player. Doubles does raise that.

Side note for Chem: Yea, watching the finale' of the Amazing Race. Been a fan since if first started!

    Hey Erik!

When I first started playing doubles, I was petrified at the net. I would hit solid shots when I would do drills, but when play would start... I looked like a deer in headlights. I actually broke a racquet during a particularly annoying match when I bricked 8 volleys in a row. After playing more doubles, I've improved my transition game and now, I come forward much more in singles. Don't get me wrong ... I'd MUCH rather crank a sweet forehand up the line, but ... I'm not afraid to harness my inner Novotna.

TAR was good last night ... This season was solid, but I still love my old school TAR with Blake/Paige and of course slutty Reichen/heavenly Chip. *swoon*
