So this morning, Miss California was named to retain her crown. While she spoke eloquently, she tried to blame all the photography released on her in a vast plot to discredit her. She also maid claims that the President and Secretary of state believe as she does that Gay Marriage should not exist. That it should remain between 1 man and 1 woman.

With people like this in the public eye, claiming to have spent their lives working for tolerance and acceptance of diversity in one breath, but then spouting off hate, claiming that individuals should continue to be denied basic rights, the Gay Community will have more work ahead of us than we thought!!!

I think we as a community should start speaking out, in a much more vocal way...I am looking to organize some kind of movement....and have been for a long time. I am looking for individuals who are willing to help make a national movement again. As well as ideas beyond the typical marches and such. PLEASE LET ME KNOW THROUGH THIS DISCUSSION OR EMAIL!

I'm not surprised Trump let her keep the crown. Let's face it the only bad press to Trump is no press, the media whore.

I hope this totally blows up in their face. I hope she gets a pie in the face just like Anita Bryant.

Marriage isn't a basic right, it's a religious institution, and I personally believe she's allowed to think it's not right.

Hell at least she made a whole sentence...why are we giving this idiot more press than she's worth?

Guys, she's a joke. The only thing to do is laugh at her. If you let her get you mad, you become part of the joke.

Marriage is NOT a religious institution only, in fact it was a civil institution designed for the combining of wealth, and/or increasing of family/tribal size and power. Only in the last 700-1200 years has it become usurped by the Church, which has indoctrinated people into believing it's a religious institution.

As to it not being a "right" I would say that, in America, it IS a right, based upon the concept of "Pursuit of Happiness."

As to Miss California's being allowed to think Gay Marriage is not right, fine, she can think whatever she wants, but the moment she uses a public stage to spout what is nothing more than bigotry based upon an egregious lack of intellect, than she has no "right" to express such in public.

Like they say, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but when your opinion is based not on fact or experience, but rather flawed indoctrination, I say she has NO right to voice it in public. She's too dumb to be allowed to do so. Opinions are like assholes: everybody has one, but that doesn't mean we want to hear it make noise!

Better tell that to all the Justices of the Peace and Judges who marry couples. You have it reversed. In the US, marriage is a civil ceremony, which members of the clergy can be empowered to administer, on behalf of the state.

Whether the marriage is combined with a religious service is entirely optional. But without that civil marriage license, and someone duly designated by the state to conduct the ceremony, you ain't got nothing legal.

I foresee a boycott of Donald Trumps enterprises and a shrink in the pool of investors either of which he can't afford in the current economic climate, given trump entertainment is already bankrupt and half of his current developments are on hold

Getting to keep her Miss California crown makes her a martyr? I think yanking her crown would have made her much more of a martyr than she already is. Hopefully, Little Miss Saline Funbags will now slither off into much deserved obscurity.

Hooray! I say keep this ignorant bitch on the front page, next to Cheney, Limbaugh, and half of the Texas lege. I want every right wing bigot to open their mouths and reveal themselves for who they are. Then let's see who *really* wants to line up behind them.

A backstabber is just an asshole that nobody noticed.

She had every right to voice her opinion because she was asked the question period. That's why lawyers never asks question that they if don't already know the answer. Perez Hilton got thrown a curb ball when she answered the way that she did. His little rant just made us look worse.

Free Speech is one of the foundations that this country is built on you can't censor someone just because you don't like what they say.icon_rolleyes.gif Jesus .

The issue surrounding she possibly losing her crown had nothing to do with the questions and answers segment during the pageant. It was about the underwear photos that surfaced.
Upon review they found nothing wrong with the photos.
She was never at risk of losing her crown of being Ms. California for the lame answers.

That Perez Hilton is such a vile human being.:

Yeah, 700-1200 years is plenty good enough for me...lasted longer than any State (with possibility the exception of those crazy Asians who have recorded history so long it's mind blowing).

As to it not being a "right" I would say that, in America, it IS a right, based upon the concept of "Pursuit of Happiness."

I'd agree with you if i wasn't allowed to live with a man, however I am... When it comes down to basic rights, isn't this nitpicking a bit?
This reminds me of children fighting over whether one's trespassing because he's on the sideway in front of the other's house, which is as we all know "public property."

As to Miss California's being allowed to think Gay Marriage is not right, fine, she can think whatever she wants, but the moment she uses a public stage to spout what is nothing more than bigotry based upon an egregious lack of intellect, than she has no "right" to express such in public.

So, she should have lied? The question was her opinion about gay marriage... I personally can't fault her for not liking it, same as I dont fault anyone for liking it...

Like they say, everyone is entitled to an opinion, but when your opinion is based not on fact or experience, but rather flawed indoctrination, I say she has NO right to voice it in public. Yes some opinions aren't based on strong, solid logic, but it doesn't make them any less valid. Just makes them flawed. If we ask someone's opinion we can't fault them for telling it to us when we dont like what they say.
Deciding who's opinion has value for public forums is just another form of censorship.

President Obama made no bones about how he feels about gay marriage and he is on record as saying that he believes that marriage is between a man and a woman. He also stated that, he believes that gay civil unions should be afforded the same rights as married men and women.

erm.... we need to get a grip on the words. There is a religious institution, which is a hell of a lot older than "700-1200" years old which we can or can not call "marriage". There is also a civil institution.

THESE TWO THINGS ARE NOT THE SAME. If they want to keep a certain religious definition of "marriage" I couldnĀ“t give a flying fuck. If they want to use that religious belief to deprive citizens of rights then there is a HUGE problem.

in three months no one will remember Miss America (or typically no one does). Who one last year? Let this one fade in to obscurity like the rest.
On the plus side, she is entitled to her "religous" beliefs, which I think was her intended point - and she did endorse civil unions.

She'll effect nothing - but boycott Miss America, I wouldn't be surpised to find that at least 30% of interest and/or viewship is among the gay community.

And Trump is a self-righteous looser. Who doesn't know that?
    ...but him

The right to free speech for one person does not trump the right to free speech for another. Those who are vocal in their opposition to this womans views have every right to be, right down the line to calling her a dumb bitch and calling her out on her very own and obvious hypocrisies.

This woman was given the opportunity to answer a question about gay marriage in a very public forum. Had she been a little quicker on her feet, she might have responded similarly to "Well, fortunately, I'm not someone who'll ever have to deal with this issue personally, except perhaps to answer this question. Because, frankly, I'm no more qualified than anyone except a gay person to answer this question than any of the other straight people here, I'll refrain from offending anyone and simply say no comment."

Instead, she made her remarks and then went further, later on, to say (and this is not an exact quote) "I'll do everything in my power to keep marriage between a man and a woman". She threw down the gauntlet and sidled up the great Satan himself, which is the religious right wing.

I wonder if you guys defending her aren't doing so (a little bit) because she's pretty and if you would be so defensive of her if she was say margaret-thatcher-esque?

First of all I feel that the question should never have been asked if the man that asked it could not judge her on how she presented her opinion and not her opinion in itself. Californias governor has said on TV that he believes marraige to be between a man and a woman as well as Obama and the majority of people here support both of them. The question was unfair and she was judged in a way that no one here wants to be judged. I respect her opinion but do not agree with it and that is no reason to take from her what she earned and deserves.
