My favorite player will probably be suspended for 2 whole years. I am distressed.
Of course, everyone saw this coming for a long time - but still, what's a little cocaine here and there, non?

The uncertainty of his game makes great television; there is nothing worse than watching someone like Federer or "the guy in the capri pants" play because you know they will win - it's boring, but with Gasquet you just don't know. That and the fact that he is totally my type. Ahem, ahem....icon_redface.gif

Anyway, I know that illegal drugs are bad, but do you think a two year suspension, during his peak years, is warranted given the fact that cocaine isn't necessarily a performance enhancer?

If you're a professional athlete, you shouldn't be taking illicit substances. Period. And the fact that people do, when they know they're going to get tested, just boggles my mind. On varsity teams in the US you're not even supposed to drink, much less snort a few lines of coke.

it actually is a performance enhancer. it energizes you and makes you somewhat stronger on court. totally focused and concentrated on the match. it also takes a bit of the pressure off. I played tennis my whole life, never did cocaine but it is a fact many players have used. some players like Agassi during his early years. and this is locker room view, its a fact!

as for richard, its sad. I know the guy, we traveled to some of the same tournaments together as juniors. to see this happened to him is really shocking. never knew him to use drugs. it could be a mix up or maybe he has changed

=( I love gasquet... ever since he threw the racket at the line judge at the US open in 2004... haha

This is ridiculous. My two favourite players doing coke... Hingis and Gasquet.. maybe i'm cursing them... icon_eek.gif

Ha....they're 2 of my favorites too so maybe I'm the one cursing them. It's too bad though.

I was pretty shocked when i heard about Hingis. I wasn't as shocked to hear about Gasquet, but certainly disappointed. Its negative press for our sport, but the game will move on. Gasquet is cute, but never lived to his potential. It is a shame.

To me, the legality is a non-issue. What bothers me is the ingredients that go into cocaine, beyond the coca. I know the chemicals that go into it, and, like meth, I wouldn't even consider putting any of them in my body INDIVIDUALLY, let alone in combinations that are seen in cocaine. I tried it a few times when I was in my 20's, but then when I read the list of ingredients, that was it for me.

Any one of them are toxic, and potentially deadly. Together?
    Sheer idiocy.

Huhicon_confused.gif... That sucks. He wasn't my favorite but he was up there, mostly because he seemed like a decent guy. That sucks that he does/did coke. A two year suspension seems kinda harsh, yes.
