When I was a kid I always had the big, amazing birthday parties kids love to have, but I haven't really done anything to celebrate a birthday since I was a teenager. My birthday is May 14th, and I once again have lots of people asking me what my big plans are. icon_neutral.gif I always feel like a bit of a dork for when I say "nothing". Its not that "I hate being reminded of how old I'm getting", its just not something I'm interested in making a big deal about.

What do you guys do to celebrate your birthday? Do most of you get excited about it and look forward to a celebration, or do you look at it as just another day the way I do?

I have Krav Maga training the night of my birthday, and some of the guys I train with want to take me out to the local pub after it. This sounds perfect. Its not making it a big deal, and I always love a night at the pub with friends. icon_smile.gif

My birthday is also May 14th! I haven't had a big celebration since I was 30. That year, my b-day was on a Saturday. That Friday, My co-workers threw me a surprise party. That Saturday, my roommates threw me a surprise funeral party to bid my youth good-bye and Sunday, my then bf had a few close pals over to his place for a b-day dinner party.

This year, I am going to take myself out on a date. Going workout, see a movie, go to a fav restaurant for dinner and then to my fav coffee house for coffee and dessert. It will be cool!

I divorced my birthday some years ago (around 23 or 24) and we haven't spoken to each other since. Neither could be more happy.

Well to begin with, Happy Birthday to Erik and to the poster, UofTLatinBoy.....

I always had big birthday parties for years... even when I was a teenager and in college. Usually had a big swimming party of some kind since its a July birthday.

These days it depends on when it is during the week. I've been able to take off a few birthdays, but many times I go to work as usual. Usually have some kind of family observance (like a dinner and a little gift opening party). My big thing in recent years is to always take time sometime during the day to do something for myself.... that is to buy something I'd never buy.... or just to do something for myself.

My bf always says of his birthday, "its just another day"... but it isn't. Its your day and you need to do something special for yourself.

    Happy Birthday!

It's really just another day to me, especially since changing my eating habits. I don't want to look forward to cake and food anymore. My next birthday is 40, and I'd like to be doing something for it, but I don't know what.

OMG that's awful. Here. Bake them a big set of brownies and lace them with laxatives to make the next 2 days hellish for each of them.

    Hot Tub Party !

Not only does everyone looove hot tubs, but doing it at home means you have the ultimate control over booze, who comes, the food and the DJ ! My Bday is in September and in Montreal - thats generally pretty cool already (5 degrees celcius), so its extra fun !

It's always so sad when people organize 'huge' bday parties and no one shows ! If you go out, Guest List everyone ! People tend to show up when they know they will get in and not pay. icon_twisted.gif Or are those only my cheap friends?

Treat myself to an expensive dinner. It's the only time that I will eat a steak!icon_biggrin.gif Then I go out for a cocktail. I always celebrate my birthday. I never work on that day. I just totally embarce getting older. I never understand people, especially gay men who freak out around their birthday. As long as I have my health which I do I'm fine.icon_biggrin.gif

Go to Disney World and hang out with Donald, Mickey and the gang. Just love that Orlando heat in the merry month of August.

good plan, but at this point, they wouldnt trust brownies made by me. they would just assume it would have rat poison or something.

i'm currently undergoing silent treatment, and then will personally, and preferably face to face, enjoy verbally raping their souls.

and then pick up the pieces and move on, leaving their empty soul a lifeless post-rape corpse.

hmm, i wonder if you can tell if i'm still bitter... lol

I'd be bitter too. I suggest investing in new friendships. Luckilly you live in a big city and can do so pretty easily.

You have to be joking... who wouldn´t want to come to your birthday party?

(unless it was in some stinky dark nightclub, in which case I´d probably pass, but cook you lunch instead)

I usually like to get together with a few close friends somewhere near my birthday, and my family another day near my birthday.

This year, I will be madly panicking about my (hopefully) final meeting with my Thesis Advisory Committee, since I'm hoping to get permission to write my Dissertation so I can get my Ph.D. and graduate.

That weekend (Memorial Day Weekend) I will get together with friends and family at the town plant sale and the MA sheep and wool festival.

Hey MeOhMy......same thing happened to me on my 30th birthday. Out of over 30 people - only my ex and his sweetie showed up.

I was devastated and Mom and Dad were upset (they had hosted it at their acreage)

I didn't get even or anything like that. I decided to live well and to fade out from them all.

    So I did.
