For me, it's 7.5 to 8 hours a day otherwise I feel tired and grouchy. Can people get by on 5 hours or less? I certainly couldn't.

I sleep about 4 - 5 hours per night during the work week. And take a short nap during my lunch break. During the weekends, I sometimes extend my sleep about an hour or so.

If I try to sleep 8 hours, then I feel sluggish. And I feel like my daily schedule is thrown off as well.

I shoot for 8 hours a night, but significantly reduce that amount for special occasions.

and when you say "sleep," do you mean actual sleep, or just stuff one does in a bed?

It used to be about 8 hours, but I was tired after sleeping. Now it is about 6 hours and I am good when waking up.

At least 1.5 hours to function at work with coffee, but I cannot keep that up for long (maybe for 2 or 3 days in a row) Five hours and above and I am good to go. I virtually never get 8 hours a night.

When I went to Italy in 2006 I slept 7 hours in the first 81 hours of the trip, and still needed a gravol to force me to sleep.

My usual sleeping time is about 6 hours. I really feel the effects after about 3 days of it.

I try to get about 8 or 9 hours when I don't have to get up early. Makes so much more difference that extra 2 hours..

I have been known to sleep a good 12 hours though ;)

During the week 5-6 hours, weekends 8 hours. I love my sleep but to be honest if we didn't need to sleep I wouldn't sleep i think its a waste of time sometimes.

I need 8 hours to be fully awake and functioning. I am jealous of the people here who can manage on 6 hours or less. I often try that, but I'm a zombie the next day -- sluggish, reduced energy and mental focus, and I often get sick if I go too many nights with insufficient sleep.

I get 4-5 hours a night. Leonardi Da Vinci trained his body to get 2-3 hours of deep sleep a night.

I would say if I get under 6 hours of sleep a night, I could have a crappy day the next day... Now I've had some like that and they've turned out fine, but
    there's a danger... I know I need my sleep.

seven to eight hours are required...in a normal pattern.

I can survive on 2-5hours a night for a few days running....

Until I become a total grouch, lose concentration, and start feeling really moody. Sleep is pretty crucial for me...I try to get a minimum of 6 every night...

I'm not always successful...and on those days...naps are good things :-)

I can get by with 4 or 5 hours, but not for more than a day or two. I usually sleep between 8 and 9.

I prefer 8 hours per night, but can manage on about 6. If I do that for too many days, my sleep bank needs to be filled. Thus causing me to sleep excessively on the weekend.

5 hours is the least I can go and still be able to function the next day. However, I feel my best when I get at least 7 or 8 hours a night.
