What type of profile maker are you?

I've seemed to notice gay online profiles fall into several categories, and by all means this is not a comprehensive list.

There's the Don't Bother. Don't bother talking to me if you are: (insert list of random faults)

There's the Hopeless Romantic: I'm a hopeless romantic, but I'm just looking for a hook up.

There's a few that are actually postive. I'm normal, lets talk. How are you?

And of course there's the Ask Me. Enough said.

I can't write a profile w/o getting giggly inside and feel like I'm writing an english 101 paper for teacher who's really just a couple years older than me and probably not as smart. IE - I laugh and fake it..... *That's what she said*

    Anywho, comment....... or not.

If I was looking for something or someone, maybe I could write a better profile. I don't have any idea what's there. I filled it in when I joined this site, and I haven't looked at it again.

I've often wondered how the guys with severely negative profiles have any friends at all...

My profile is trying to be friendly and positive and says something about my interests, what I do for a living and what I'm looking for.

I don't like clicking on profiles that have embedded music because I don't like listening to other people's musical tastes when I'm browsing profiles.

Negativity is also unpleasant to read. The worst I've seen is "not interested in average bodies, don't contact me if you have average in your profile."

Mine is just there to let you know some of the simple things in life, which often go unnoticed, that help me get through the day(so).

I hope I don't fall into any of those. I try and make almost everything I do as if you were actually speaking to me or happen to be around me. With my RJ profile, I've kinda turned it into a time line of blogs. I don't know how successful my page is but I'm hopeing that i'm A)sending a positive message and B) spelling "hopeing" right...

About me is really about other things, as you can get a good idea about other people from what they like and dislike. i also means I don´t have to say terrible things like "I am a down-to-earth, work-hard-play-hard, normal guy looking for similar". Only people who are really good looking (and I mean even by RJ stanards) can get away with that sort of thing.

Looking for: changes periodically. It´s not entirely serious.

    Matterych,

You are right! Many do fit that,

Myself, I try to paint a realistic picture of how others see me, but really, how can you be objective about yourself? icon_smile.gif

I try to make mine somewhat substantive, specific and positive, and about myself. . . I think if you read my profile you'll have at least a decent idea of what I'm about.

Better that than attempting to preempt inquiries from others by writing a long list of things that I find attractive or unattractive of other people.

Also, re: profiles. . . I think the phrase "move to the front of the line" and all its slight variations need to be retired forever.

Mine is certainly not comprehensive in regards to myself and my life but it is the most detailed one I have anywhere. I think it gives people a pretty good sense of my personality.

My profile is actually an excerpt from my upcoming coffee table book: Online Personas, A Virtual Tour.

In it, you'll find a comprehensive description of the 114 different profile archetypes, along with answers to popular questions such as:

    1. ARE TYPING IN CAPS AND AGE CORRELATED?

    2. Complete concordance and word cloud analyses for all popular social netwoks, RJ included, with interesting new results on the "Chillin / Hangin / Kickin" Hypothesis.

    3. A new demographic analysis of the 37 different cell phone self-pic classes, including surprising new data on the "Flash Obscuration" and "Dirty Mirror" variants.

All this and more, at fine snotty bookstores in your 'hood, this June.

I'm the "put way too fucking much information in my profile, fill it with media, links, and pathetic attempts at humor in an attempt to appear witty and interesting" kind of profile maker. :-P

I try to put enough information in my profile about my life to give a guy insight into my personality without actually going "I'm cute, smart, funny, athletic, and down to earth." (HINT HINT...no, really)

It's difficult make an honest statement regarding your own looks or personality because there's always some sort of internal bias, whether you think it exists or not. Someone who has actually interacted with you (and no, not one of your other personalities) should make that call - you shouldn't need to tell them.

As always, actions speak louder than words...

    My profile says:
"This is a random group of adjectives that sort of vaguely describe me."

You'll get a better sense of who I am by reading my forum posts.

You'll get a real good idea of who I am by talking to me.... a lot.
