It has reached epidemic proportions. There are people who become oblivious to sight and sound to anything around them when talking/texting. I used to dodge them all.

But now, when I see one coming I continue walking...and then...BAM!....the person smashes into me...cell phone flying to the ground.......they go into a state of shock thinking they are getting mugged.

They look at me and I respond with a WTF shrug and continue walking.

I get a perverse sense of pleasure out of it.

How is your city concerning this epidemic?

Hehe, I do the same thing. I can see them slowly swerving into my path, and I just brace myself for it. Heaven forbid they look up every few seconds, like their text is really that important. What amazes me is how many people look at me like I'm the one in the wrong.

I prefer the " You stupid dumb fuck" look to "WTF"... and then keep walking.

I hahaha i love it. I work in Midtown so they are all over. I purposely walk in their path sometimes, just to make up for those that i have missed. It's crazy though it's like they are in their own world. Last week i walking and this lady was on her phone crossing the street like it was nothing and the light was green and a taxi came flying. This guy is screeming at her to look up and she just keeps on texting, luckily he just crossed and was able to pull her out the way.

Nyflava- I like your style. But you brought up probably a great "un-thought". Is it my imagination or are women at least 75% more guilty of this than men? Why do they feel obligated to have a phone cemented to their ear? AND...especially while driving? I know they won't be on this site to defend themselves, but they offend me. BIG TIME!!!icon_evil.gificon_evil.gificon_evil.gif

You know what they say, women just like to hear themselves talk lol. Mom i'm sorry but it's tru lol. 9 times out of 10 they are usually just repeating them self and it's like this conversation was over 10mins ago.

Just like the commercial says.. There's an app for that..

    http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/05/14/emailnwalk-iphone-app-finally-lets-us-leave-the-house/

Both this topic and the above app makes me cringe. These people have zero situational awareness when they're out in public. These people are potential crime victims. I say, let them learn the hard way.

I tried walking and texting. If it's dark out and street lights are providing light, you will see NOTHING after staring at the phone for a few seconds.

And that dark colored garbage can hurts when you run into it and fall over.

I enjoy beeping at the people texting while driving .... they have no idea what is happening and it scares the crap out of them.

Yep.....sorry ladies.....but women are 80% guilty of this stupidity. I think it has something to do with the fact that women are used to being given the right of way, simply because they are women.

One time, I was driving and tried to make a right hand turn. This woman was stopped in the middle of the street....talking or texting. So I slowly drove up real close to her..she still wasn't aware I was there.........so I slammed on my horn and scared the shit out of her.

Cherished every momet of that experience.

Texting while driving is scary enough, but I recently passed a teenager of the undersirable gender who was driving while, instead of texting while looking through the windshield, texting with it on her lap and looking down the whole time. She was scattering cars over 4 lanes of traffic. Hopefully, she's since ended the progression of her gene pool.

KissingPro, I am glad you are a justice minded person, but what to do when the next person you smash into is either crazy or has a boyfriend or father close by who is irrational or catches on to your little sociel experiment? You will get a royal ass whipping and I'm sure the giver will cherish every moment of the experience.

ugh.. I've actually had to grab a couple of people and pull them back from crossing the road blindly and they have given me filthy looks for it, heh, they got a piece of my mind for that!

when I had a regular phone I could SMS without looking at my phone, I knew were every key and letter was, so, I'd actually just send and SMS with the phone still in my pocket hehehe

Now with an iphone, you can't do that icon_sad.gif so I don't SMS while walking

I love the girls that are to busy texting while driving in the left lane. They arent paying any attention to their driving or that they are going slower than the rest . You have to pass them on the right. You can beep your horn at them even give them the bird. They dont even look up. Sort of like texting zombies. I think the State Troopers need to be looking for them not speeders. And the fine should be the same as reckless driving.

The number of car crashes caused by using cell phones has skyrocketed. When are people going to learn. Pull off the road to do your talking and or texting. icon_confused.gif

That's TOO funny that you say that...LAST NIGHT there was a major 3 car accident that happened right outside of my job b/c the guy was txting while driving. I had to take the long way home b/c all the cars had to be towed away.
Although convenient, it's kinda sad (maybe even a little scary) about how as a society we've all become SO dependent on instant communication.

by "funny," I really mean't "ironic." I just use that word in context more...Nonetheless it's still becoming an epidemic and no one really gives a crap about the cell phone laws here.
