Does anyone ever wonder why the majority of long-term relationships between two guys seem to consist of two very similar looking guys? I know there are always exceptions, but it does seem to me that the majority of couples look like they could be biological brothers.

Maybe we're all secretly attracted to ourselves? I know if I'm buying a shirt or getting my hear cut I'll choose something that I find attractive in other men.

I wouldn't have a clue.. but its as funny as hell!

personally I'm not attracted to ma self or guys who look like me (ie, they look like my dad) and I've never really been with a guy that looked anything like me... but I like variety, a guy with a unique face always gets ma attention icon_smile.gif or a nice smile, eh, anything good icon_smile.gif but not like me.

Some do, others don't. It really all just depends.

I think it happens because of convenience and habit....like

honey, why don't you get this shirt too, but in a different color?

    or

honey, go to my barber, he's great

    or

honey, I can't find my socks, can I wear yours?

    or

honey, let's have another slice of cheescake and forget about going running.

Hmmmm...Bill 5ft10 stocky-ish build - blond blue eyes, Irish/English. Me: 6ft1 dark brown hair and eyes - more of a slender build, well, 187lbs slender, Jamaican/Heinz57....

    Unicorns, apparently. icon_lol.gif

We think what you're seeing in similarities is more behaviour etc rubbing off on each other. We've even started sounding alike. Bill's Mom had a great conversation with me for 20 minutes then became very embarrassed as she admitted she thought she'd been talking to her son!
(I told her she was half right, heheh)

I think this explains it. My bf and I have different heights, body types, and facial features, but people do ask if we're brothers or even twins.

I started a thread a few months ago about what's meant by the phrase "a good looking couple" and some posters felt there's an indefinable "look" that some have or acquire. And a way of interacting together that signals these 2 guys are a couple.

Whether the pair actually looks similar or not, above all they seem to look "together" in some way. My partner & I are always told that, though we're quite different in physical appearance.

I've always tended to "meld" with my BFs very quickly, and the joke down here is that everyone not only thinks we're a natural couple, but had assumed that we'd been together for many years after we'd only been dating a couple of months. NJdewd from RJ said that very thing the first time he met us, that we acted very comfortable & natural with each other, like we've been partners for many years, when in fact less than 2 at that point.

And that in turn produces an illusion of physical similarity, that may or not actually be present.

I totally agree with you on this one... My bf and I have been together for 4 years, and we get asked all the time if were brothers. Even by other gay guys trying to scam on one of us. Its always "Is your brother single" quite funny actually.

Yeah this is so true. And the longer they are together the more pronounced it becomes.

Seems that this is only true among caucasian men thoughicon_confused.gif

I think there is some truth to this............think about it - any two guys you see might be dressed similarly, and be of a similar body type. Often if I see this - I'll also see matching rings. It is good seeing two good looking, worked out, hunky guys out in public. (Sadly, sometimes you see two fat asses waddling along eating fat food too).

For me - the guys I date are a similar body type, but are usually brown haired guys - and a little shorter.............who knows why.

This reminds me of an article I read once that theorized homosexuality was a result of narcissism. I don't agree. I don't think it CAUSES homosexuality. I just think homosexuality makes it easier to indulge one's narcissism.

I don't see it. None of the guys I've dated have ever looked anything like me in terms of build, height, complexion, hairstyle or anything else. None of the couples that I know look anything alike either.

I have seen this occurrence of couples looking similar often. I do notice that some gay men have a habit of conjuring an attitude and exuding an appearance of the type of prospect they wish to procure. In otherwords, a gay guy that likes 'thuggish' types will dress 'thuggishly'. Even at the cost of lookin' lika 'wigga'. lol
I just wish guys were more open. Open about race and height etc. Ive actually experienced a lot of 'vertical-discrimination' - so to speak. People see my height, and its like, ugh.. I did read an article about how people sub-consciously gravitate toward others at 'eye-level'.

Well, we do both have beards. And we both sound exactly like Fran Drescher.

Yes...if I get one more waitress asking if we're brothers, I'm going to throw my soup at her.
