Since there haven't been any posts about football, I figured there's no better way to start than by talking about the NGFFL.

Flag Football was first played in the 1994 Gay Games in NY. As the Gay Games then went to Europe and Australia, American football was dropped (until Chicago last year).

However, around 2000, teams from various parts of the country got together and started playing in what we call the Gay Bowl.

At last year's Gay Bowl in Dallas, there were 4 new teams (Michigan, Ft. Lauderdale, Houston and [senility moment]).

This year's Gay Bowl will be in NY city the first weekend of October.

Here in the midwest (or is it the mideast?) we're working on developing a team in Cleveland - and I'd love to see others in Ohio, Pittsburgh, Ft. Wayne, Toronto etc.

So if you want to play or help start a team in your area... let me know!

You can learn more about the Michigan Panthers (including links to other teams) here:

http://www.MichiganPanthers.org

To contact me (I'm Leeron), send an email to info@MichiganPanthers.org

Thanks, and hope to see you in NY if not before!

I want to play! but there appears to be no league in San Francisco, or at least no website and the NGFFL website is "under construction.

Does anyone know if there is a league for gay flag football in the San Francisco bay Area?

There used to be a team fron SF, the Shockwaves, but they haven't made it to a national event in the last 2 years. They used to play at Dolores Park on 18th and Church.

Their website appears to be down, but you can try sending an email to info@shockwavesfootball.org . If that doesn't work, perhaps the sports reporter at the Bay Area Reporter has info: jimproven@yahoo.com (that email may outdated, too).

Thanks! Yea I noticed their website was down as well and the email. I will have to try it out and see if anyone responds back.

As big as softball is in SF, you would think that football would also be big.

this will be my next football after i am done with my semipro football in wisconsin. this sounds like fun and interesting to do. my big concern is no hitting. we need to get a full contact gay football league. Now u r talking most of the guys who do that league i have heard played college ball and there is nothing like the sound of pads cracking when u dump a guy on his butt. i may be a little more aggressive then most but that is what i get for beating up the straight boys. that is for all the gay men out there that the straight boys think we cant hang with them.

i just read the fact that american football is dropped when the games go over seas that is some bs. i guess they realize that no other country has a chance if they tried to play america in real football.

There is a team in South Florida, centered in Fort Lauderdale.

I think it's too expensive for most teams to travel to Europe... and Europe isn't there yet with regards to having its own team (it's hard enough to find gay guys who play football in America).

But not to worry, there are two national tournaments in the USA every year (none of this waiting for 4 years, either).

The Gay Bowl is a tournament played over Columbus Day weekend and rotates around the country. This year it will be in DC, next year in Phoenix.

Chicago will be hosting its 2nd annual PrideBowl the last weekend of June.

Lastly, I've been told that the DC bid for Gay Games 2014 does not include football but that Cleveland's does. (Chicago's didn't initially include it for 2006, but after I inquired... they came through!)

I have been looking for a gay sports team to play with, but there is very little in Buffalo that appeals to me. There has to be a flag football team among us somewhere.

MIAMI
NEW ORLEANS
SAN ANTONIO
SEATTLE

Sorry, though, I haven't heard anything about Buffalo

Thats what im talking about, I LOVE to crack some dude coming over the middle after hes been talkin sh*t all game and make him eat his own teeth. But one step at a time though. Id just like to find some "gay" leagues of any type closer to me in cenral florida cause i am not driving to Ft Lauderdale every weekend to play ball. I have no problem playing with the straight boys but...

You and yours, MZ, are invited to come to Michigan and crush us.
Or at least have tons of fun trying.

If you know some other guys who would be interested, hop down to Cleveland on the 2nd. It's only a 3 hour drive, no?

I hear that teams have formed in PHILADELPHIA and SAN ANTONIO.

I think they are both planning to attend PrideBowl in Chicago (end of June)
and the Gay Bowl in Washington DC (2nd weekend of October).

It's today!

Michigan at Cleveland, with other people present from Columbus and Pittsburgh, is at 3pm this afternoon... which looks to be a lovely day.

Join us at Brookside Park at Ridge Rd & John Nagy Blvd, Cleveland, OH 44144

Once you turn into the park, continue down the road past the circle and until the road dead-ends at the road closing, and make a left into the parking lot; we are playing on field # 1 the closest field to the parking lot and up the stairs. Cleveland will be dressed in orange shirts, Michigan in Blue.

Excellent, waxon. Hope to see you and the SA team at PrideBowl in Chicago or GayBowl in DC.

Thanks for the well-wishes, RSportsguy. It was a picture perfect day and a great time was had by everyone - including the 2 deer which made their way across one end-zone. Really, though, who knew that guys in Cleveland were so hot?

Cleveland (and perhaps Pittsburgh and Columbus... anyone else?) will be coming up to Michigan the weekend of June 6th. I can only hope that things will work as nicely here as they did in Cleveland.

The Michigan Panthers start preparing for GayBowl IX in Washington D.C. this Sunday.

We are actively seeking new players, so if you are in Michigan and want to play (previous experience helpful but not required), now is a great time to join!

(If you're not in Michigan but know people here, please pass it on.)
