Turk, the amount of posts you've submitted can't put you in The Top Ten on a forum with men tallying more than 9,000. I think having a top ten based on tallys is silly, but if there were one, I hope it would be based on content not volume. As you know, a post can consist of one sentence or one word and still count toward the member's post tally. A post can also add absolutely nothing to the discussion and count toward the member's post tally.(scroll 1 up).
If serious about discussing the topic of valuable posters, shouldn't you consider the merit of their posts? Are they eloquent and tactful, are their posts interesting to read, and most of the time, do their posts advance the discussion. You can consider other factors too, such as: are their post uplifiting, funny, or thoughtful? I can think of several members who make me laugh everytime I read them or if I log on and am down, their posts are uplifting.
Then, there are the smart guys: the ones who back up their comments with facts and are always spot on too and if they argue, always take an intellectual approach by never resorting to name calling or conjecture.
Let's not forget men with presence who just seem to have a warmth about them that transfers through their posts. It doesn't matter the topic, whether it's what they write or how they write it, they just give off something that is pleasant.
Last but not least, I think a great picture caps off a great poster's appeal. It is not essential, but a great post goes down even easier when a glance to the right of it reveals a satisfactory glimpse of the poster. At the same time, an abrasive comment can be eased by an appealing picture. I'll use RedHeadGuy as an example, that picture of him shrouded in sunlight and smiling brightly always gains him an allowance with me even when his posts are less than pleasant, eventhough with him, they never are.
Taking into consideration some of my suggestions about what makes a great forum poster: merit, eloquence, tact, intelligence, and presence, I nominate: USBioNerd as # 1 The absent UrsaMajor as #2, The absent Jake Benson as #3, The absent LoveSickMotherFucker as #4, Sedative as #5, MeninLove as #6, LILTanker as #7 (because of a matter of the heart), Matey/Pattison as #8 (because it's my list ),Caslon10750 as #9 (because it's true), ReadHeadGuy as #10.
I really gave my list some thought and based my selections on merit, not whom I like, except two (heart). Those three that are absent really represent a time for me when the forums were not so petty and even if you didn't have the sexiest picture or kiss up to everyone, your post were judged at face value. I said a pic helps, but it is not the alpha and omega. If anything is, it's presence. There are many posters and the ones that shine are the ones that make you feel there presence and meer words can't do it. It's a combination of all of my suggestions and more.
