we all have them, little things, simple things, that for some reason tend to recharge us, calm us or seem to make everything in the world ok and I'm not meaning anything sexual with this, I'm talking that stuff deep down thats totally innocent and just good.

    Mine would be
Being with my big sister, I don't know anyone like her, but I don't think I ever could find anyone anyway, just spending time with her always makes me feel happy and content with my lot in life.

My nephews and nieces, my nephews can bring me to the edge of reason and make me as grumpy as hell and want nothing more then to get away from them, yet, oddly, after seeing them all, I end up being happy but my niece is a whole other story, shes just like her mother in so many respects and oddly she adores me to no end and asks for nothing more then attention and affection which I have in spades.

my mates, I never see them enough any more, but just hanging out with them is always just perfect, they have no demands on me, I don't need to even talk if I don't want too, they just accept me.

When I was thinking of this, I started thinking about food and objects and things by my self but then it struck me, its the people who are the simplest things I enjoy. I could give up everything, but I couldn't give up the people I love.

I have to agree LilTanker. Nothing makes me happier than watching my nephew (like your niece) grow. I look into his big brown eyes and see so much of my brother and it just melts my heart. Its even funnier when we compare feet. His are a mini version of mine!

One day when I visited, I was sitting on the couch watching a dvd. He walked over and climbed on top and for no reason hugged me and gave me a peck on the cheek. I teared up and almost cried. It was such an innocent, pure gesture!

Riding the bike all night, and looking up to see a sky full of stars. At that moment there's no place I'd rather be.

While I like to characterize myself as the anti-kids uncle ogre I have to confess that my nephews and nieces are one of the best things in my life. I can stay in the couch watching them play for hours and an honorary degree wouldn't make me prouder than when they ask specifically for my help with their homeworks; that's something I always have time to drop by my sister's house.

It's the little details of their growing up, becoming who they are going to be that are priceless to watch: their little smiles of satisfaction, their thinking faces and their ensuing ideas, how they tell their jokes, their sincere doubts, and their laugher...

As for simple pleasures while alone, well... brief walks downtown, looking through my windows seeing the threes and the people, looking up to the stars at night... and singing along to the radio icon_redface.gif (I said when I'm alone!)

Walking around alone at night through empty but lit streets, listening to music. I feel like I'm in a movie and the music isn't really playing in my world but just for the 'audience' to set the mood. If I'm walking home from a cardio workout it's even better.

The people I like too obviously, but that'salready been mentioned.

    My Treat!

I do love my family...but when I need a moment alone to ponder....it's over a cup of blue berries...lol

I wish it worked during the day time too but for some reason it needs to be night.

I completely agree with this... there are just those random moments in life that make it worth living... here are a couple of mine

    > Whenever it is raining on a warm summer night

    > Laying in a field to look at the stars and reflect on where Im going in life

    > Just doing stupid random things with my roomates that brings out the little kid inside me out again

    > Whenever I get someone to laugh histerically

    > Hearing a favorite song on the radio and busting out into song as loud as possible

    > Running around with my dog until he and I are completely worn out

    > Going for a late night run, whenever there is hardly a sole out... good time for reflection

I love this thread. My simple pleasures.

A nice cup of fresh ground brewed coffee. It's not a matter of waking up. I love the taste and the smell.

Taking a nice long leisurely bike ride at the beach on a sunny day. My friend and I always bike together and we talk about anything and everything. She always keeps me centered and humble.

Reading a good book. Being able to get away from the hubbub and delve into a good book relaxes me.

Another friend , who is moving in about a month. We have cried together, laughed together, gotten mad together, and gotten mad at each other but that is why our relationship is so freeing. We truly do not have to worry how we act with each other. There is no worry about what we did or said to each other. Again a good friend to pass the time!

The smell of lavender, fresh or from a candle.
    A cup of green tea.
Time on the front porch on a sunny day with a book.
A warm shower after a good workout.

    Dodgy,

"Riding the bike all night, and looking up to see a sky full of stars. At that moment there's no place I'd rather be."

You and I the same. Nothing like riding in a dark night with only the moon and the star up above, very few traffic and you with you motocycle all alone. I feel like Peter Pan or Superman flying against the wind. Once I saw shooting star and when it start to dawn you can see the situation slowly change from night to daylight. Only a die hard rider will understand what I am talking about.

This is simple pleasure for me.

Sitting on a surfboard at the back of a clean set at sunset or sunrise or if its raining, pure happiness.

    Training at sunrise.

Reaching 'zen' state on long endurance training sets, were there is no tension about starting and no looking forward to finishing, the moment everything just falls into a easy groove.

Go for a hike early in the morning - it's so quiet and peaceful.

Go for a walk in the park right after the rain - it's clean, fresh and and somehow it makes me appreciate my life more.

Do something nice yet simple to a stranger whether it's just saying hello with a smile or paying someone a compliment - nothing better than seeing a smile on someone face.

A home grown tomato, the first of the summer, eaten as is, or converted to a BLT. Nirvana.

I love going diving and just sitting and watching marine life go about their business.. Its so calming. I sat and watched a small Nudibranch move around and 'look' at things for nearly an hour about a month ago.. The only thing that broke me out of it was the alarm on my dive computer telling me I was running out of air! heh

Another weird thing that really calms me is looking at things or people and wonder what they are doing or thinking. Just last week I found myself on the top of a 7 story car park in the city. I just watched over the edge and wondered what goes on in the buildings I could see in to and wondered what the people walking around down below were doing. Were they even aware that someone was watching them and was interested in what they were doing?.. Sounds very voyeuristic! lol

I also love sitting outside in the dead of night looking up at the stars, hearing the noises of distant cars or things moving around in the dark.It really gets me thinking about how I fit into things.

the cool mornings with a soft continuing breeze, loud thunder storms, grey cloudy skys, a drive where every song on the radio makes you want to sing at the top of your lungs, tight hugs, good laughs with people you know and don't know,
watching my little sister dance and preform, getting a laugh from the audience from a well delievered punch line in a play.
walks at the park, heated discussions....wow too many to mention

Amen on this on!! Being the only one pounding out miles on a normally busy city street at 3 in the morning is as close to a spiritual experience as you can get. I have worked through a lot of problems in life doing this.
