(Before people start asking, no its a short trip to deal with paper work, we will be coming back within a week)

So I've got a few days in Ottawa coming up, and wanted to know what there is to do. Montreal looks to be a day trip, so touring there is probably an option too.

    Where are my Canucks?

    /Yes, that was dirty.

When are you coming to visit?!
Next week there are a few things going on:
Thursday May 28th: Twirl and Swirl - a wine and beer tasting fundraiser at City Hall which benefits various gay causes. Thursday is also the popular 'boys night' at The Look Out bar in the Market area, so can do that after. On Friday May 29th is "Public Service Pride" which is a monthly event that attracts a largely gay male crowd of professionals to a "5-7" mixer. There is always a good turn out for this.
Looking for the the list of things to do and where to go? Let me know!
    oh - and welcome!

Ottawa has the reputation for being a little dull, but it really isn't that bad.

As for touristy things to see, most of the 'must sees' are compacted around Parliament Hill. So you can check out:

Tour of Parliament (the library is spectacular)
    National Art Gallery
Museum of Civilization (across river from Parliament)
Rideau Hall (home of the Governor General)
    Chateau Laurier Hotel
    Rideau Canal

And check out the shops and cafes around:

    Byward Market
    The Glebe

Check out the tulips if they are still in bloom.

If you do go to Montreal, you have to eat at Salle A Manger on Ave Mont-Royal in Le Plateau. Not cheap, and very French, but really good!

Nothing wrong with a little friendly competition!
In a month I will update the forum with events that will be taking place in Ottawa the month of July. Once you know the exact dates or thereabouts, let us know!
    Happy Travels!

Eric will be impressed, the downtown is like one big park, with lots of green space, and spectacular sites. Make sure you pack your camera, and cool clothes, it can be hot and humid in July!

Ottawa and Montréal are very different. Both are worth a trip. The Parliament, War Museum and Museum of Civilization tours will give you a good sense of Canadian history and culture.

Here are the gay bars. I haven't gone to any of them in years so don't know which are good. But most are in the Centretown area.

I agree with Dantoujours.... they're both great cities to visit. The 'scene' is much better in Montreal, but if you're coming to relax a few days you'll have a good time in both.

Besides.. .we need more hunks coming here.

I've been in Vietnam during the monsoon... somehow I will manage a Canadian summer. icon_smile.gif

No ditching Ottawa. I have a reason to go there. Free place to sleep, visiting the partners friends. Will post again once I'm a little closer. Might be able to meet up with folks.

Every time I go I make a point of seeing the National Gallery and the Parliment. Of course the last couple of times I was there as a lobbyist so Parliment was a given. Still worth it to find time for the tours though.

I've allways found lots of eye candy in Ottawa, especally on Canada Day(July 1) There is nothing like roaming the Hill or Market on Canada Day just to see all the shirtless hunks. Of course the party is great too!
