See it's true what they say... if you stand up long enough, everything will come around once again

I read the article yesterday, and while I was disturbed and saddened that in America we still have segregated social outlets based on ethnic background - including high school proms - I am not surprised.

Maybe after one more generation or two, these occurrences will be even less common. I hope. When I read stories like this one, I feel inspired even more through my career work to build bridges where possible, even though I may be empowered to do so in small ways.

I bet the gay kids in that town could use some help getting out of there. I look forward to the news story when the white gridiron captain asks his black boyfriend to the white-folks prom.

Read it too, could not believe it is happening in 2009. What kind of a community is this? Where are the community leaders?

We understand that up here, a contingent of Chinese parents demanded a Chinese only grad ceremony and now we also have, courtesy of the BC government's subsidies, Chinese only schools where you can get your ed and graduate without any English.

Hmm... after reading the article it seems that the black kids don't object to mixing and the white ones are the ones really wanting to keep the separate proms... i guess it's because all the white kids know they'd be out-danced by the black ones and don't want to look stupid... yeah, that's it icon_rolleyes.gif

This frusterates me when I'm at Aberdine or pretty much anywhere in Richmond and you try to order food and the server won't help you cause they can't speak English. It's great that you can speak whatever you native language is, but this is CANADA speak French or English...

Ugh the Aberdeen Mall. We were politely turned back by a greeter who said in sweetly broken English,
"I'm so sorry. We have nothing for you here."

I retorted with "Bie guan wo, duibuqi." (Leave me alone, excuse me.)

    That worked.icon_lol.gif

PS the 'excuse me' is spoken in different ways - this way meant move aside.
