I just finished this template for a retailer, they want to sell printed shirts and stuff like that. Its not finished but I already got the main template ready and up online, let me know what you think of the design please, what you hate and what you like.

    thanks in advance

    LINK: www.rockandrebel.com/new/en

ps: the question marks on that page are supposed to be loaded(once finished) with shirts designs.

not crazy about the hammer, but I love the blurry/highlight effect when you hover over the categories.

    It looks really good.
The little animated glints after everything has settled down are a great touch. They look nice, but don't distract at all.
The red line thing coming through from left to right is also cool.

I agree with the other posters 100% about the hammer. It's way too much. It doesn't seem to fit with the rest, and is really loud.

I'd also agree that something doesn't work about the yellow text banners. The text is too obscured to read after everything's settled, so it's kind of distracting to me, because I'm trying to read it, but it's covered up/blurry.

Gonna have to also say to get rid of the hammer. You can maybe make the hammers 'fly in' to the red bar from left to right. The design is definitely fitting with the name. Can't really judge the functionality of the design at this point. Colors are pretty good and consistent, and the touch of yellow keeps it from being boring color-wise although I would make those yellow things maybe have a darker / more worn out feel.

I would also maybe box the login/password fields, they look a little out of place just there like that, but really I think that's just a matter of preference and don't think anyone would care.

I would center the text between the screws on the top instead of having it on the left.

I would decrease the thickness of the outside border (in dark grey) and only put it on the sides, or maybe 1 pixel thick on top and a a few pixels on the sides.

    Overall it's pretty nice.

i think flash intros and most flash designs are out.....

it is SO annoying to have to wait for that shit to load and to finish playing out. i mean, you did an awesome job on the animation, but i really feel strongly that websites should NOT have it

usability should be the number 1 priority when designing a website, as well as aesthetics, but aesthetics should not come at the cost of usability.

This isn't a critique; just an edit. In the right yellow banner, "LIFE STYLE" should lose the space and become "LIFESTYLE".

Pretty snazzy man, I like it.

The hammer is bit much and slows everything down: remove the hammer and/or speed the rest of the animations up.

When scrolling down the page the sidebar graphics make me dizzy: perhaps make it a fixed background.

There is too much space between the logo and the thumbnails: perhaps make the graphics smaller (as well as the sign-in)? Once you sign in you'll just have a big empty space in the middle of the screen; it looks odd.

The sign-in fields look too big, and the text is off; it should match the top.

FAQ already stands for Frequently Asked Questions, nip off the S.

It would be cool if the wings unfolded, and the barbed wire unrolled from the center out.

Wow! That is one snazzy design!

The only two changes I would make:

    - No hammer. It takes too long and seems to happen a little too late. The rest of the intro is pretty neat though.

    - The alignment of the menu choices across the top of the screen - not all of them appear to be centered between the heads of the bolts/screws/whatever. Also, the alignment of the log-in stuff seems a wee bit weird.

    Otherwise, fantastic!

thanks for the advice guys, I will definitely remove the hammer icon_razz.gif it was only intended to put the screws on the top bar anyway. There are tons of things I will have to improve for sure. Most critiques have been 100% right on.

According to the swf on the website and the guys who complain about it, theres nothing wrong with having a flash based navigation in 2009, connections are fast enough to support it. Besides I always include an XML file with all the mapping info so the search engines can spider all links propperly, so thats not even a problem, unless the fact that the animation takes a few second to show the buttons but once the hammer be removed and the start up time reduced, itll be twice faster.

Finally, what I do is custom design, so if the customer wants animations I have to give him animations and trust me, they pay WAYmore for those. Please I would like the critique to be focus on the graphic design and not anything else guys.

I have made other websites and they are totally different like this full flash based site

    http://stephanechalifour.com/

    or this XHTML/CSS/JS one

    http://www.ramzprod.com/en/index.php

it all depends on what the customer wants icon_wink.gif

OOohh, too much of an intro. The customer would like the gimmick for as a momentary flair, but it takes too long. As someone said, the hammer is too much. Maybe get rid of that and have the thorns weed in as the nails are coming in.
