Cable Vs. Free Weights

    What are your views on using cable machines vs. free weights?

    Correct form in mind, do you feel you can benefit better from using one over the other?

    Also someone that uses a not so correct form do you feel they will get better results using free weights over cable machines?

    Had a little debate with one of my buddies.

    It depends on the exercise, Free weights allow for a more "natural" movement on most exercices, although cables are good for certain exercises, there are a couple variations on the tricep extension that only can be done with cables for example, cable crossovers are another.

    Neither, they should lower the weight till they can do it with correct form, so they don't injure themselves, or cheat the muscle they are supposed to be working, by using something else.

    They both have their place. A lot of times, I like using cables because of the constant tension they provide. Both should be used in a well-rounded program.

    I agree with these guys. I like to keep as many tools in my toolbox as I can. Both have advantages. You can have bad form no matter the exercise.

    Yea i feel the same way. He basically stated one works and the other doesn't and i was kinda like where the hell are you getting your information.

    I have not been weight lifting for a couple of months. But from my experience, I have always found free weights to be more effective than cables. But it still all boils down to your form. If you are not following the proper form, it is not going to matter whether you use free weights or cables.

    I rotate. One day with cables and the next with free weights.....
