I urge you to contact your state senator, http://www.nysenate.gov/senators, and ask them to support the equality of marriage bill.

Please don't assume it will pass. Our opponents have advertisements all over the place, trying to achieve a victory like the did in California.

I assume it wont pass, as only 20 Senators have said they will vote for it and we need 32 for it to pass (because we don't have a Lieutenant Governor to break a tie).

Here is a summery of public statements made by our Senators.

Even if all seven of our on the fence Dems vote for it (and does Malcolm Smith have that kind of power? Especially when he gave into the gang of 5/4/3 in January over this same issue.) we would still need five GOP votes to do it.

Here is the good news. Ass holes like Bill Stakowski are getting nothing but bad press and will have a hell of a time getting reelected next year.

And it isn't like this issue hasn't come up before. The Assembly has passed this three years in a row now, I think. This is the first year the Dems have control in the Senate. What should be apparent is that the Democratic Party needs to get rid of people like Stakowski and the odious Ruben Diez. If we want marriage equality in this state, we need to get to work on election politics.

It may be an exercise in futility, but if someone can update their Facebook or post here, they can send an e-mail to their Senator urging them to vote in favor of the bill.

I am not an NYC resident. I've heard 4 on the radio in the past two days, and saw an ad in the paper.

You might have more impact if you found one of these ads and posted it on here.

Found an ad. It's sponsored by the National Organization for Marriage, that hack organization...

Apparently, they're everywhere, including Times Square. http://www.nationformarriage.org/site/apps/nlnet/content2.aspx?c=omL2KeN0LzH&b=5075187&content_id=%7BDB2F494C-9098-45DA-A431-4486F5223A36%7D&notoc=1

I have not seen any so-called advertisements against the equality bill here in Buffalo. What conservative advertisements? The Buffalo News is too busy worrying about every petty little thing our area politicians are doing to be bothered reporting on several statewide news issues. As for gay marriage in New York, I would not hold my hopes high on it passing because I am very well aware of the many right wing conservative landmines mostly in the rural areas of our state. Also many urban and suburban areas also house a sizable concentration of right wing conservatism as well. New York is very similar to both Pennsylvania and Ohio in this respect, there are many conservative, right wing landmines of ignorance and intolerance throughout our state unfortunately.

Timberoo, man you did not mislead us in any way. I appreciate the forum posting about gay equality. It is just that the corporate controlled news media does not see it fit enough to report it. The Buffalo News is nothing but a political gossip rag whose only other stories are about Buffalo's worthless, contaminated outer harbor, demolition of that architecturally drab old Memorial Auditorium, violent crime or about the goddamned Buffalo Bills football team. Television news here in Buffalo is just as bad. Otherwise I never knew of any full fledged opposition to the equality bill. I know that there is a large conservative, right wing population in our state and making gay marriage into law is going to be no easier in New York than it would be in neighboring Pennsylvania.
