So, I have a stupid question and it might be the wrong place to ask, but . . .

I am cast in RENT as Angel for World AIDS Day. I am excited and I am SO happy to play as my favorite character in the movie.

Something I knew all along (but at the same time never really realized) is that Angel is a Drag Queen. Duh. That is not the problem though. I am a theatre major so I know how to make myself look good as a woman. The costumes are not an issue or anything. And last year I went to a P&H party in drag . . . but I cheated, I wore jazz shoes.

Today in rehearsal, the shoes finally came in. They almost did not fit cause they are leather. Ouch number one.
What I guess I am asking is if any of you have any pointers. I am honestly very nervous and cautious about getting on that stage and dancing in them. I am fine walking in the heels and I am even better sitting in them . . . but to dance in them?

So, I know that some of you might not be comfortable posting a "Here's how I do it" response, so I am totally fine if my inbox is filled with your responses.

Today 4 U, Tomorrow for my Ankle Replacement Surgery.

This might sound odd... but clean in them. Wear them around the house as much as you can. Climb stairs, pick this up off of the floor, mop, vacuum, anything you normally wouldn't give a second thought to.

    And do it often.

I had to learn how to walk in heels for a few shows at a local bar that wanted me to do Frank N Furter from Rocky Horror... it takes a lot of practice.

    Good luck icon_smile.gif.

REALLY for your saftey you should REALLY ask for new shoes... or go and get them yourself.

Not only do u risk injury to you ankles, but the knees, hips, achilles tendon, feet, toes and shins.

ANY shoe that you dance in should fit perfectly, ESPECIALLY a heeled shoe or a character shoe.

DO NOT force the shoe and dance on the balls of your feet. You will break the ball of your foot, you will compact the ankle bones in a way that you shouldn's if you have jumps or battments (kicks), and you will utterly destroy the knees if you have to land jumps on the balls of your feet.

You are already compromising your plie by wearing heels, so your upping the risk of leg injuries even if the heel fit correctly, but one that doesnt fit correctly could cut your entire career short!

To find the right shoe you need to go to a dance store and find how different types of heels fit your foot. You cant just order them willy nilly. The "Theater" you are working for is putting you at risk, as well as their own production if the shoe isnt fitted correctly. And remember... you are a boy! With boy feet! Sizes and things are going to be REALLY off and weird so you may need to pull a diva moment and simply demand that they use a different shoe and have one thats fitted etc.

    Best of luck!
