Elbow pain from Tricep exercise

    It seems like any type of arm extension exercise or close grip bench press exercise inflames my right elbow where the tricep connects. I can bench press, but I'm in for constant sore aching if I ever try to target the darn tricep muscle. I'm currently doing straight arm pulldowns to kind of target them.

    Anyone familiar with this injury and what I can do to avoid this pain?

    Which side of your elbow is painful? If it is the outside then it may well be 'tennis elbow' from over extending the wrist. If it is on the inside it is probably 'golfers elbow' from gripping with your hands and putting to much strain on the flexor tendons of the fingers and wrist.

    Inflammation of the attachment of the triceps at the elbow can occur and is likewise strain due to overwork. What ever it is, rest is the answer and start again with light weights when it is better.

    I had this too, the PT told me that some ligament in my elbow had slid out of place and became inflamed... I had a short session with him where they hooked my elbow up to a battery and worked a minor steroid through my elbow, weird shit i know, but it worked and I was back on the court the same day... that being said If i can feel it coming on again the only thing that works is rest for sure, but if its unavoidable ice at night and heat before activity has been working for me. I take a lot of high impact shots to my arms as a volleyball player

    I had what I think was essentially tennis elbow. I got it one day from doing some quick close-grip pushups at the end of a workout. Felt very tender. My brother in law is a sports med guy, and I THINK he called it a 1/2-inch fracture. The name didn't really matter, as the treatment was pretty normal -- Advil, ice, and rest.

    YES! I have had this kind of pain in Left arm up through Bicep for over a month. Pain like this in Right arm off and on for over 10 years. Went to doctor's 3 weeks ago, had xray of Left arm done. They found I had a broken elbow! Specifically, a half-inch bone chip, seperated from the point of the elbow... Then, had xray done of Right arm. They found the same thing!!!!! Another bone chip, much older, floating off the elbow point. 2 broken elbows.... My PT and the doctor said I must stop lifting until healed... Coincidentally, I have a meeting with an Orthopedic surgeon this coming Thursday. I will be discussing the option of surgery to remove both bone chips, so I can resume lifting.... GET AN XRAY! Even an MRI. It could be more than a pull, or tear, or bruising of the muscle.....
