Back to Basics! Prepping for the summer -getting down to it in the autumn!

    First post to the forums! So I joined this site a couple of weeks ago because I've been wanting to improve my body shape and overall fitness for a while now. Being honest, I haven't really started getting down to it yet but I have been reading the articles and posts here -gearing myself for slogging it out in the future! I have made a small effort, cutting down on junk food, alcohol and walking more!

    Over the last few years I've been sloppy! I'm only two years out of university where I spent the guts of four years partying and pushing my liver to the limit! The nature of my work hasn't helped either, sometimes I think I'm socializing more than I ever had in the past! But that's all about to change!

    I've finished work for the summer and am heading to Ibiza to enjoy myself for three months. I'm not going to lie, I will probably be going out there a whole lot more! However, come the autumn I am going to Australia for a year where I plan on settling things down a lot! All going well I will be working in a gym where the staff get fitness instruction classes and unlimited membership as part of the job! I'm hoping the guidance and advice there will set me in the right direction for the future!

    Coming back to the summer, I'm not planning on committing myself to a tough fitness regime but I would like to do something to get me in optimum (or somewhere close) shape for starting out come the autumn. So, short of joining a gym or investing in training equipment can anyone suggest ways I could go about this? I figure walking, running and dancing my socks off at the clubs! I would like my stomach to be a lot leaner too so is this gonna come down to sit ups?!

    Again, a newbie here so all comments/advice/hints 'n tips welcome!

    SO i just found your post on here! i was totally the same, always wanting to get into better shape but that lazy boy inside of me just couldn't pick myself up to sort it out! I decided I was going to join a gym to sort it out.. if I'm paying I'm going to use it right... well I have done this a few times.. and it hasn't really worked out that well, BUT I joined something called Gay Mens Boot Camp like a month ago ish and I am really enjoying it!!

    I go all the time and not only is it pretty fun, it seriously does the job and there are plenty of cute men there to help me keep motivated! I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!

    lean stomach is food, not situps

    if you want to do something "low maintainence" to set you up, walk for an hour on the beach every day. You may have to work up to an hour. The beach is a whole workout in itself as the sand makes it challenging. Added to which it´s stunning.

    3 months! So jealous ;) But know that til you sort out your diet the rest is not going to really show big results.
