My favourite book is boy culture, while there are some erotic scenes it is far from smut, it was made into a movie, i got it right away, and was very dissapointed icon_sad.gif either way i went to watch the south park movie soon after to cheer myself up lol, which it did, but there was a commercial in the beginning for a movie called "get real" where a high school kid realizes he is gay and falls in love with this other high school kid and such, and i really like the gay plot without the porn, so i was wondering if you guys knew any movies with a gay plot that isnt just alot of sex, but keep in mind just because there is a sex scene or something it doesnt mean its porn lol, just, not all about sex bahahaha

    thank you!

Get Real is good. I like 'Shelter' too. 'Were the World Mine' is a new one, haven't seen it yet but it looks good.

Movies with gay themes and gay characters, but without overt gay sex or porn, include:

    - The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
    - Victor/Victoria
    - The Birdcage (I know, everyone says "La Cage Aux Folles" is better, but I still like this - it's Miami Beach!)
    - A Touch of Pink
    - Brokeback Mountain (does have one fairly discreet but rough anal sex scene)
    - Philadelphia
    - Angels in America (actually a 6-hour TV miniseries, now on a 2-DVD set)
    - Outrage (still in limited theatrical release in some areas, more a documentary)
    - Amancio (limited art theatre release, I attended the premier last month, know the executive producer, deals with gay discrimination, look for it on LOGO soon)

Googling gay movies will return many hits, and many limited-release gay movies can be seen on the LOGO TV channel where available.

jprichva saidNot specifically "gay" cinema, but gay as hell:

    Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

This gym scene aboard an ocean liner with Jane Russell is incredibly homoerotic for 1953. Keep in mind that the theme of this number is that the male athletes aren't tempted by the voluptuous Miss Russell:

BTW, Russell's plunge into the pool was accidental, but they kept it in and modified the end of the number with her soaking wet.

Ah! A virgin to gay cinema... LOL! I started a particularly long thread about gay movies last year. You can read about most of the gaythemed movies released there:

    http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/154730/

My Top Picks (feel good movies only, there are enough angsty gay themed movies around to make you cry all year):

    Shelter (<3!)

    shelter.jpg

    Just A Question of Love

In addition, some more I recently watched and liked:

    Mulligans
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1106447/
    28ix81x.jpg

No Regret (Huhwihaji Anha) (has a weird scary part, but overall, not bad)

His Secret Life (Le Fati Ignorati)

And some others I watched in the past few months but were so-so or I didn't like much at all:

Cover Boy: L'ultima rivoluzione (The leads were hot, the delivery was meh)
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0494284/
    locandina-cover-boy.jpg

Bangkok Love Story (Although Iht was FRIGGIN HAWT! and the screenplay was superb, it was waaaaay too melodramatic)

there's a lot good french cinéma, with gay themes.

one favourite of mine is "Wild Reeds" (les roseaux sauvages)
one of the actors, Stéphane Rideau, is absolutely dreamy, and he's been in other gay themed movies (just can't remember titles).

Kekeke! icon_wink.gif I mostly like the happy ones. icon_razz.gif Too many gay-themed movies kill all their main characters LOL.

Hmm... I actually liked Boy Culture. I have the book, but I never finished it. Guess I will have to pick it back up. As for good gay theme movies. I like the following:

Edge of Seventeen -(Great coming on age film)

    Touch of Pink

    Opposite of Sex - (hilarious)

Imagine Me & You- ( lesbian storyline, but great romantic story)

    Summer Storm

    Trick

    Shelter

I've seen that one. Not that good. icon_confused.gif It doesn't even have a real gay scene. More like an MMF with the MM's never touching. icon_razz.gif

I've actually seen four of the gay-interest films he was in. He's also in Le Clan (Three Dancing Slaves), but doesn't have a gay role there (and he doesn't either in Wild Reeds anyway), Come Undone (the only film where he played a gay role, which was a bit weird, but so are most french films icon_razz.gif), and À toute vitesse (too melodramatic for my taste).

I watched a lot of full gay films but can't remember any (I do sleep before the end) except My beautiful Laundrette, Macadam Cowboy, Priest (!) and Brokeback Mountain ..icon_rolleyes.gif
I'm more into "Crypto Gay" Films as Spartacus, Furyo, Streamers, Top gun (volley scene lol), Gattaca, Alexander, 300 or even whith dark side as Le Roi des Aulnes, Pulp or Hostel...icon_confused.gif

maybe his character wasn't gay in "wild reeds" but he did have a sexual encounter in the dormitory with the main (gay) character who falls in love with him because of it. the main theme of the movie is unrequited love (also for the other characters) but it centers around these two boys.
