    ....and why?

    Just to review-

    The 5 senses are:

    Smell,
    Sight,
    Sound,
    Taste,
    Touch

I think I would have the hardest time not being able to touch or be touched. I think I could make it through life but I think touch makes it all worth while.

    How about u?

    Eyesight.

One of my greatest phobias is that of going blind, an extension perhaps of my existing claustrophobia. Going blind restricts you from so many things, it's almost the same as being cut off from the world and placed in a windowless cell. And also... well... my line of work depends on it.

most important to me is vision.

I think that you can compensate most of the others somehow better than loss of vision...

Damn you SilverFox and your limiting definitions.

    I mean there is the
    Sense of rhythm.
    Sense of style (thinks JP)
    Sense of fair play
    horse sense
    sense of smell....

    From SilverFox:

Talk-is only one form of communication.

Hear-an important sense, but again I see this as a form of communication that I could get around.

Taste-Well, being a Taurean, food is one of my greatest pleasures and comforts. While I good still eat, I would probably have a hard time not having that anymore.

Touch-Hmm. This is a tough one, because it is so connected with the other senses. Loss of feeling? Also difficult.

See-Without my sight, while there are amazing sight-impaired people, I am not sure I would be one of them, especially at this point in my life. As long as I can see a thing or a person, my other sense stay connected.

So it is my sight I could not live without.

I'm pretty sure SilverFox wanted the thread to be the way he started it to throw a curve ball in to make us think more so.

    HAHAHA, Okay see!
Speaking of which, style requires thought which requires sight.
Therefore, the sense of sight would be most important for me. Like Sed's reply, i get quite claustrauphobic myself and my work is mostly visual.

1st - Eyesight - essential for my work, and for everything else.
2nd - Hearing - vitally essential when out cycling.
3rd - Smell - something burning in the kitchen?
    4th - Taste - I enjoy my food.
5th - Touch - feeling for the milk bottle early in the morning while trying to wake up!

    Sight.

I was born blind in one eye, so Ive lived all my life being protective of the sight I have in my 'good' eye.

Sight is so important to me and Ive made no secret of my thoughts that if I was to become blind in my other eye I would most certainly end my life (knock on wood that I never become blind in my other eye!).

I'm a therapist and I dance, so communication is an integral part of my experience. Hearing and touching are the ways that I communicate in this world; I do so with words and movement. I'd feel lost if I couldn't express, couldn't verbalize my feelings or if I couldn't locate those feelings in my felt sense of them. If I lost my sight, my smell, my taste, I think I'd manage. However, hearing and touch are integral, without those I'd feel disconnected and trapped.
