Oh man. I think one of my biggest pet peeves -ever- is when someone calls me "Boy," or "Son."

I'm 21 years old, and I'm a male, but to me, being called those is like me calling anyone who's older than me "Gramps," or "Peon."

I just think the terms are derogatory, over-used, and way too subservient. No one's got any kind of power over me, unless I give it freely, and those terms, first off, really only apply to 7 year old kids.

Any thoughts or things you absolutely hate being called?

Reply "yes, gramps" to "boy" ...and "yes, dad" to "son." They wont do it again.

As evidenced in my profile, "Stud."

WTF? Who even uses that word anymore? It's like saying someone looks "slick." Give it up.

Also, "kid" but only if it's used by someone younger than me. Lol.

I hate being called "cute" or "adorable." I'm really attracted to older men, and there's nothing worse than to have this great conversation with one at the bar and then he says, "aww, you're so adorable!"

Bro - Makes me nuts. Brother is okay though I'll admit it kinda bugged me until my last job where I worked with a couple middle aged African American ministers who always greeted me as My Brotha.

Man - Almost as bad as Bro. Tolerable only if spoken with Jamaican accent.

    "I'll be 24."

    "Oh, you're a baby."

You would have hated this delightfully crazy lady I used to work with. She called everyone "buddy" and referred to herself as "buddy" in the third person.

"Buddy, you gotta tell Buddy what's goin on with Buddy, mmmkay Buddy?"

Phone call "Hey buddy, it's Buddy."

"Hey, have you seen Buddy today?"

its like gay guys sayin GIRL and HER and SHE when referring to other gay men. I get so MIXED UP! My friend will say "Look at her. She's a mess." And I dont know who the hell he is talking about for like 5 minutes.

Even though you're ten years younger than I am, I wouldn't call you "son" or "boy". But I might call you next time I'm in COS and ask if you want to hike up the Barr Trail or go kick a ball around the fields at Bear Creek Park. icon_smile.gif

Generally I'm not bothered by most nicknames and casual references, but it sounds like the way you feel towards "son" is how I feel towards "hottie". Frankly, I find the word a little insulting when used directly. I have come to associate the word with its overusage by people who have nothing more interesting to do other than sort everyone they see into categories of sexual attraction. And it seems like the guys they describe as the hottest hotties are just guys who are adept at wearing the veneer of whatever "look" is currently considered the peak of gay attractiveness. I had a guy at a leather/bear bar a couple years back come right up to me and say, "What's a smooth young hottie like you doing here tonight?" And I could read in his face that that was his internal keyword for the little role I would have to play in relating to him. I kinda smiled demurely and engaged him in polite conversation until his eyeballs led him away towards another "hottie", but I really wanted to say something like, "Well, I'm here because I can only get off if you cover yourself in half-licked Oreo cookies and sing 'America The Beautiful' with a mouthful of marshmallows while I recite the first 256 digits of Pi and bombard you with nerf darts in a room all filled with chinese lamps", just to see if I would still fit into the little Hottie box afterward.

I know this is a little bit off topic but....

Andrew. I ALWAYS hated having that name, and when I was 17 I legally changed it to my middle name, Lucas. My parents have never stopped calling me Andrew, even though its now been over 11 years since I changed it. It drives me crazy, especially when I meet their friends and they get confused when I introduce myself. "Oh! You're Andrew!" icon_confused.gif They don't do it to annoy me, they say they just can't think of me as anything but "their Andrew" icon_rolleyes.gif

Kiddo (when people younger than me call me this, it annoys me- only my older sister can use it)
    Papi (I don't know why)
    Buddy (just always sounds condescending)

But for the record, I do like the terms bro, dude, stud, etc.. when used by a hot guy. icon_smile.gif

Oh, I forgot to mention that before you are allowed to touch yourself you will be expected to support no fewer than three chinese lamps with the shaft of your penis for at least 60 seconds.
