Since so many of y'all seem to kill the trope of grunting, slope-headed jocks:

    Shelfari

MySpace meets Oprah's Book Club, with a healthy dose of snoterati window dressing thrown in for good measure. It's my new favorite way to fuck around at work.

I briefly was interested in a similar site, the name of which I cannot now recall. The idea was that you entered in the catalog of your entire library (they would sell you a barcode scanner to help - maybe a quarter of my books have barcodes.) Then the database would find people whose libraries were most similar to yours, on the assumption that you would be compatible. But you could only enter about a hundred titles before you had to start paying the monthly fee. Strangely, my matches were heavily weighted toward authors whose names begin with "A."

It would have been interesting to see if that really did produce compatible matches, though.

Found the link, but it appears to be dead: http://www.librarything.com
I suspect that it demanded too much effort (and money) of the users.
