Where are all the gay southerners?
Jun 09, 2009 12:29 AM GMT
So, I was looking over some forum posts recently and it occurred to me that I haven't seem too many southerners here on RJ. As a native of Mississippi, I'm curious to know how many other RJ members are from the South? If you're also from the not-so-gay-friendly South, shout out where! It’d be nice to meet a few other RJ southerners.

Atlanta, Ga is very gay. I think you will find gays (for the most part) concentrated in larger urban areas and technology/education hubs. As far as online here .. I am not sure.

There are over 3700 from Ga, nearly 3000 from NC and 2500 from VA. That's over 9000 alone. I'd say there are plenty from the south and I haven't even mentioned Florida.

Alexandria, Virginia ... just across the Potomac River from Washington DC ... so near the Pentagon, my house was jolted slightly by the jet crash

Charlotte, NC would like to think of itself as a progressive forward thinking metropolis, but alas, it is not. Too worried about ending up like a 2nd Atlanta. Really don't know what that is about. Fairly good gay community here, although splintered. Sadly, still not the mecca it yearns to be.

Tulsa here......Oklahoma's more southern than folks realize. Culturally, in both the good and bad ways and historically, since several small Civil War battles took place here and several tribes had troops on both side of the war.

I'm from South Florida. I know were not considered "The South" but we are geographically further south. ;)

Atlanta has a huge gay population. Of course, quantity isn't the same as quality.

Too bad =( I have family an hour south in Macon but I just can't see myself there right now. Way too slow.....and I definitely can't live in the burbs like Conyers, Smyrna, etc. I'd rather live Midtown or close to the city if I do move in 6-8 years haha =)
