I know, after you lift you're supposed to down a protein shake along with some fast digesting carbs.

various articles suggest dextrose, sports drinks, sugar, white bread, blah blah, blah. But since no one wants to eat a piece of white bread or a spoonful of sugar, would this not be a good time to scarf down a cupcake or a cookie or muffin? Something that tastes good and that I'd be fantasizing about all day anyway?

is there some reason I'm not seeing?

I was advised to reach for some fresh fruit so I get the natural sugars, plus the vitamins and fiber.

You can get away with the cupcake, though.

Nope, at the end, it all ends up being glucose. A little (I did NOT say a pile) fat and sucrose never hurt anyone. Post workout is the perfect time to head off to Braums for yogurt or have something tasty. The fast carbs, are just what you need, especially after a leg workout.

Every read the make up of "nutrition bars" or "weight gainer". A piece of chocolate cake, or something nice and sweet post workout, help you stay sane.

When I train hard, I carry sugar in my fanny pack so I don't go hypo. For Logan, a type 1 diabetic, we never leave home without a bag of candy.

Folks love watching me carb up on fast carbs after a hard warkout. It's fun.

Post workout, you NEED faster carbs, to get into the golden hour on your reload. Real slow carbs are great during the day, but post, and to some extent, pre, workout, fast carbs, are just fine...in fact, needed.

Excellent! This means that I'm not into 'baking' anymore... I'm into creating 'fast-digesting supplements for optimal post-workout performance!' icon_cool.gif

I bake because I care about fitness! icon_lol.gif

so I ate one (1) chocolate chip cookie after lifting this morning, along with my protein shake.

IT WAS GREAT!! I could feel the protein being sucked into where ever it's supposed to be getting sucked into with the help of my sugary snack.

I read in Ian King's book, The Book of Muscle, that sugars are good post-workout, but fats will inhibit the release of some hormone you want for building muscle.
    ...
    ...
That would be Growth Hormone, GH. King recommends restricting fat intake until at least an hour after your workout.
