Study Says Contracting HIV, Anal Sex Linked

William SaletanAccording to data released earlier this year by the Centers for Disease Control, the probability of HIV acquisition by the receptive partner in unprotected oral sex with an HIV carrier is one per 10,000 acts. In vaginal sex, it's 10 per 10,000 acts. In anal sex, it's 50 per 10,000 acts.

William SaletanA CDC fact sheet explains the risks of anal sex. First, "the lining of the rectum is thin and may allow the [HIV] virus to enter the body." Second, "condoms are more likely to break during anal sex than during vaginal sex." These risks don't just apply to HIV. According to the new survey report, the risk of transmission of other sexually transmitted diseases is likewise "higher for anal than for oral sex," and the risk "from oral sex is also believed to be lower than for vaginal intercourse."

    wear a condom.

But, of course, that reasonable answer is not going to be good enough for you. Even though thousands of couples where one is HIV+ have sex and the disease is not spread, it still isn't good enough for you. You are beyond reason. You have seen the light and are a true believer.

You g0ys are an irritating one trick pony.

Thanks for the info but this is hardly breaking news. This has all been widely known for over 20 years.

Duh, did you just join society in general? Wear a condom, use descretion, play safe.

If you need further explanation cause mom and dad didn't tell you about the birds and the bees on gay sex goto: http://www.fc-kits.org/hotsafersex.html

Sometimes, a personal belief system that works best for YOU and YOUR LIFE are best left at that: a personal belief system.

It's rather like the Westboro Baptist People. They're brand of Christianism works for them. Well and good. The problem arises when they attempt to convince/sway others to the ultimate, no-fault correctness of their beliefs.

The notion that gay men should be avoiding anal sex...is rather akin to suggesting straight men should be avoiding both vaginal and anal sex. The reaction will be icon_eek.gificon_confused.gificon_lol.gif

But personal choices should be respected, even if disagreed with to laugh-inducing degrees.

It's a homophobic gay man. They feel that it's acceptable to suck dick, but not get fucked.

Turns out, there's LOTS of diseases that have been associated with both anal and vaginal sex. They usually teach you about them in health class in high school.

Consider, for a moment, that the OP (me) is not part of a group that seems to be universally scorned. Pretend that this post is from another gay guy simply asking that we, as a community, rethink gay sex, what would your response be now that any knee-jerk, anti g0y posts would no longer apply?

Y'know, Ryan's absolutely right. We need to change the way we have gay sex. We should have gay sex using a penis and a vagina. Oh, wait, there's those annoying g0rls, who don't take it in the twat because that spreads AIDS. Oh well, back to da butts boys.

The widespread lack of patience with the post is not pure g0y hating. It is because suggesting that anal sex and the contraction of HIV may be related is hardly news, and as as the Rt Honorable MZ said, there are ways of dealing with the risk. There is nothing inevitable about the conclusion that not having anal sex is the only way forward.

Perhaps not new news, but it is good to the CDC finally putting some numbers to it.

Even years ago, this is something that should not have surprised anyone. The virus sees three different biochemical environments in the three forms of transmission for which data is given. And introduction of the virus into the gut places it in an environment where the purpose of the gut wall is to move things across it, especially glycoproteins that coat the exterior of the virus.

I'm getting near attending the same number of funerals of friends who passed from HIV as my years. Too bad some never seem to learn. I suspect they never will.

Did you know there's an established, scientific link between vaginal sex and pregnancy?

    It's true.
