I accidently deleted a folder of photographs from my computer and then cancelled the deleting halfway when I realized what was happening. But by then about 1/3 of the files (photographs) of the folder were already deleted. Now Im trying to get the files back. I looked in the recycle bin, but they are not there.

When I open the Zoom Browser X (the software I use to dowload images from my Canon)-I see a chronological list of all the folders it has ever created on the left side (2008_08_24 etc) and when I click on the folder whose contents I partially deleted in error, I get this window message "Updating database..." followed with this message and an exclamation mark.

"Failed to repair database. Please restore the database from your previous backup using the database dialogue which is accessed via the database menue command".

What does that mean? Can I get those photographs back or is this a lost cause?

This is too specific and probably cant be diagnosed in a forum, and this is may not be the site for it....but I'd appreciate any help I can get. I have Windows XP on my laptop.
