Exerpt fron the Wall Street Journal:

"If you thought legroom on commercial airlines was already cramped, get set to be squeezed some more.

New Boeing 737-800s now being delivered to American Airlines have the same-size cabins as the existing 737-800s in American's fleet. But the new planes have 12 more coach seats, pushing the total number of seats to 160. Delta Air Lines Inc. has also added 10 seats to its 737-800s, raising the total to 160. So has Continental Airlines Inc."

The article goes on to list many of the airline with the most and least amount of seat pitch.

Frontier is near the top ( my favorite airline for domestic flights ) with 33 inches, given my height and long legs it's tough for me to get comfortable in the seats of most other airlines.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that is uncomfortable in the cramped seats on planes.. what's your favorite airline as far as comfort??

United Airline, economy +, a few extra inches.. (if I can't fly upfront)

btw - what the article fails to mention is that the new seats on most airlines have much thinner backs giving them more room to add seats.

In general I find US airlines to have far far more room than their European counterparts, and when it comes to the European budget and the holiday companies own planes, you are really packed in on those. Thankfully being only 1.73m I was buit for economy class flying.

Eventually we'll all be expected to stand for flights, possibly allowed to lean backwards at a 10 degree angle while staying upright.

They're all going broke, except for WestJet, Southwest and a handful of other low-cost airlines. So, I guess this is a way to add a bit of extra revenue, but honestly I think they're missing the big picture. They should find a way to fill the seats they have before they go and start pissing everyone off by adding more seats. I'm surprised with Continental, they usually offer a pretty damn good service and even better now with them being in the Star Alliance. US Airways and United, well, nothing is going to help them out, they're just a disaster in every which way. American's pretty plain, but they work, Delta is ok and hopefully NorthWest will get better now that DL and NWA merged. Alaska/Horizon, Frontier, JetBlue, yadda yadda, they're all ok.

As for up here, we don't have much choice, but what we have is pretty good. If your headed North, like Arctic, Canadian North, and to a lesser extent First Air are the way to go. They're the only airlines left in NA that still serve free domestic meals and a glass of wine. Air Canada is, IMO, a pretty good choice among the rest in North America, based on their in-flight amenities, customer service is another story. WestJet is pretty good too. The charter airlines like Sunwing, Transat, Skyservice are all ok too.

I just hope we don't get back to the way things were in the 80's and early 90's. Now that was and era of less leg room.

Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines are said to be the best. Though, it really depends where you're flying.

I fly Continental almost weekly. I will go out of my way and pay a little more to fly Continental. Their aircraft or newer than most other domestic airlines, they have a great first class, still feed you in coach on longer flights and most of their employees actually smile!

    lol

Pure greed at its finest. Im sure we will also see live cargo sans cages. Good thing is fresh eggs on the flight.
