Grew up in San Diego and would surf down there, never really worried about sharks down there, despite the number of them there. Now in SF, I REFUSE to surf up here. 1st off it WAY colder! 2nd off, TOO many Great Whites up here. NO THANK YOU!!!

So ...um...I was at Hutchinson Island the week of Memorial Day. I didn't see THAT particular shark and his show, but I did encounter two much much smaller sharks while swimming off short during the high tide. They swam up beside me, circled around and went about their business. They almost shimmer in the sunlight when they're just under the water. I was surprised to see them so close and so clearly.

I quickly moved closer to the shore.

who knew sharks breached for fun? or had fun?
not just the eating, sleeping, self-preserving, killin machines we once tought?

    ...maybe man should breach. hmm.

Very nice. Got a love / hate attachment to sharks, including an instinct to pull my feet off the floor when watching shark documentaries and films.

That jump looked like a lot of fun. I'd be paralyzed if I was that surfer though.
