I wanted to say thanks to the RJ community in general. I’ve been a member and a forum reader for awhile, but this is my first post. I wanted to thank you guys for the informed postings on diet & exercise, etc.

The past year had a lot of tough changes for me and I stopped going to the gym and started eating unhealthy snacks a lot more. Add to that the fact that my job changed from an active one to a largely sedentary job, and, well, I packed on the pounds.

About two months ago I realized I needed a change. I was tired of looking in the mirror, getting on the scale, or climbing a few flights of stairs and knowing I was seriously out of shape. I started doing regular cardio and changed my diet significantly. Some things that really helped me included watching everything I eat (“Lose It!” app on iPhone is great), breaking my food intake up throughout the day into 3-4 smaller meals and 1-2 snacks, and sprinting intervals.

So – here I am now, 10 pounds lighter and with 3% less bodyfat (according to my scale)… My clothes are becoming loose and I feel healthier in general. Here’s to the next 20 pounds and 10% off… which I’m guessing will go a bit slower as I’m probably going to start strength training in a few weeks.

    Thanks guys!

This is what this site is at it's best. In the three years I've been here, I've lost 43 lbs., gained a lot of muscle (and friends!) and gotten in the best shape of my life at 45. I've also learned a lot and been encouraged by many here (as you've seen from your post).

Let's try to encourage all of us to be our best selves. God knows there's enough out there that's trying to tear us down.
