How contented with your life are you? What areas are your contented in?

As I am approaching 50 in the next year, I have just recently realized I had everything I ever dreamed about as a child. I have a great loving spouse, great friends and family, great health, a job I enjoy, a nice home, travel and live life. I am not wealth nor am I poor, I am fully contented with what I have and keep thinking how lucky I am.

I'm nearing 19 and of those I have a loving partner, or something close to that. I don't have a stable group of friends, and my family is very broken up. Education hasn't gone as well as it could have in the past year.

Though out of these four collumns of happiness I have just the one, but I'm content with what I have - it doesn't mean I don't strive for more though. I was more happy when I had the friends and education and nothing else.

But these things take time, I believe.

People like you who sail through life with everything working out just fine really annoy me. Nothing personal, you understand. So you have some good things going for you. Now describe what really sucks in your life. I'll feel better if I know you suffer sometimes.

Contented with life? NEVER!!! Never feel you should not do more because you don't feel the need. icon_eek.gificon_confused.gif What an absolute bloody waste of a life!!!
    Perfect examples......
*Always acquire more wealth through stocks and real estate. (Especially now....best time to buy!!!)
*Never look at your bank accounts and portfolios and be satisfied!
*Be philanthropic with the arts and animal charities.
*Always push yourself in the gym. No bloody excuse to be scrawny, fat, or weak!!

For generations in my family a constant driving force and battle cry has been...
    Contentment breeds complacency!

    Cheers,
    Keith

    NO.
I know I'm never going to have time to really study everything that I want too or pursue.
I feel like a lot of things are screwed up in the present, unresolved in the past, and big upsets going to happen in the future, like people I care about dying.
That's one thing that really bothers me because no matter how much better anything gets people I care about are going to die, probably not in pleasant ways either. So I'll never really feel truly content even if other things get better.

The question was how contented you are.

SFin Boston described the positive things in his life that make him contented.

SparkyCat disagreed because SF had not posted anything negative in his life.

Sf answered the question. It was not asking what are the good things and bad things in your life. It was are you contented. You can be contented even with negative things going on in your life.

I am similar in opinion to SF. Is my life perfect? No. Am I contented with my life? Yes. Can I fix somethings that are not great or live with and accept that not everything is exactly what I would wish for? Sure. Does that mean I sit back and accept everything? No. I work on the stuff that needs work. If possible, I try to make my life better and work to be a better person.

Does that mean I am not content? No. I am adult enough to realize that my happiness does not require a perfect life. It is an attitude.

All is well here on my end. Things changed a lot for me this year. Many good one's and some others more challenging.

With each new change I look at it not as a negative thing...but as a new beginning, with new idea's, with new opportunities.

I am contented knowing that things will always be happening and always CHANGING!

How do I deal with it? Now, that's up to me....so far...LIFE IS GOOD!!

    Set new Goals....then push ahead!

Anto- I don't understand your last post? We all saw the original post. Maybe it means different things to different people.

Are you contented with life? To me, that does not mean satisfied with status quo. It means pretty generally OK with life. Not that things are perfect. Not that things could be better. But in general, things are good.

I've always been very happy with my life - and I'm becoming happier (taking that contentment up a big notch thanks to someone very special) right now. I'm very grateful for all I have - all I have worked for - great health and people in my life.

I'm not right now... I'm in the middle of a very sour break-up which is tied to the sale of our house, the division of our funds, and the separation of our pets. But like all this, this came to pass, not to stay. Good days are ahead, and one day all this pain will be experience strength and hope. For now, I'm content to have good health, sobriety, a job, a car, the unconditional love from my pets and my true friends, a place to sleep that's outta the rain, and food in my tummy.

Yes, I'm content for the most part. Things aren't perfect, but they're better than they have been in years.

On a related topic, did anyone see the article on happiness in the June 2009 issue of The Atlantic?

Yes. It's interesting to note that George Vaillant, who devised the study on which the article is based, had a disastrous personal life with 3 bitter divorces.
Apparently contentment can't be learned by observation.

To answer the OP's question? Yes I'm contented, to the extent that human nature allows you to be. I agree with Keith that too much contentment leads to stagnation. You can always strive to be better!

To me, to be content means life is over and one is depressed or ready to die.

I'm never content and always looking for something more. A new challenge if you will.

I'll be content when I hit 100 years in age.

I'm content with my life. I have a job where I save lives, I make good money and I have 2 beautiful little boys that have me wrapped around their little fingers, I have a huge family that is supportive of me, my kids, and my lifestyle...

I'd like to have a man to add to the equation, but for the time being I'm content. My boys are what makes me happy

I was diagnosed with Crohn's, lost 50 pounds, got may life back in order and back in to cycling, and my 50th birthday was the BEST I've ever had...and it keeps getting better!

I am content with my life in that I now experience it as free floating in the present moment, no longer driven by extremes of egoic cravings and aversion. Materially, I am content with what I have, but I am also content to strive for more.

Things are not as stable for us as we would like and we live like grad students over two years since we both have been working full time, but at the same time we enjoy ourselves, we have a roof over our heads and our bellies are full. There is no more we could possibly ask of life.

I regularly remind myself I should always be grateful. for what I have. I have a very stable, grounded... but always intriguing and interesting life.

Could there be improvements... absolutely and I'm working on them and striving to be the best I can.... but, I don't define who I am as a person based on my achievement of this or that. Most will be achieved. I'm proud of my efforts, grateful and love my bf.... its always the glass 3/4 full.. or more.
