Have you contacted your congressman and senators on gay rights?

If they hear from their constituents, it makes a difference. If they hear nothing, then all the flap in the news means nothing to them.

Find your congressman and senators: http://www.congressmerge.com/onlinedb/

I could even tell my talking to my congressman's aide for gay issues raised his awareness of the offense and frustration felt by the gay community....and my congressman is pro-gay. Northern Virginia is quite pro-gay. My city and the neighboring county have gay rights ordinances.

I've written a bunch of times asking mine to support marriage equality in New York. I think it's important for politicians to know where their constituents stand.

Yes, regularly. Sadly we have the Republican is Democrat clothing Ben Nelson here. I might as well be slamming my head against our capitol building for all the good it does.

Ah, but if he heard from more of his gay constituents, the man in that clothing would change quickly.

Yep, making the rounds and not just with my elected officials. Find out the ones in the appropriate positions and sending them a note also. I would remind people that we might want to channel our anger in a positive way so as not to have all of this backfire. I've seen it before and we can not afford for that to happen. Yes, I am engaged and doing my part, but not for "shits and giggles".

I have done it frequently. I have pretty good luck with Feinstein and Boxer but David Dreier is pretty much a joke.

I wish I could believe it made a difference. I believe until we get some younger faces in govt, it is falling on deaf Bubba ears. No hetero congressman is going to cut his throat with his conservative supporters and fellow congressman. Supporting gay rights to them is supporting perversion. Good luck though. Who knows. Maybe Obama will end up being bisexual.
