So, jprichva just mentioned under another post that Chick-fil-a donates money to anti-gay organizations.

I thought it would be interesting to start compiling a list of nationwide businesses who do the same.

I'd like to boycott every single one of them. Happy pride month.

Let me start by saying that no matter how good they smell, I do NOT eat Auntie Anne's Pretzels.

I have heard the LL Bean wasn't gay friendly...that they gave money to anti gay organizations or something like that. In the 2009 HRC Buyers Guide, I see they have a yellow rating:

"Businesses/brands that have taken steps toward a fair-minded workplace, but where there is still progress to be made"

Here is the HRC Buyers Guide

Places I don't spend my gay dollars because Pam's House Blend, AmericaBlog, and other blogs have reported on their anti-gay, racist, or anti-employee practices:

    Wal-Mart
Dunkin Donuts - this was a tough one for me! I LOVE their donuts.
    Urban Outfitters
Chick-fil-a - although being honest I doubt I'd ever eat there.
    Exxon

There are others. I keep a list at home on my laptop.

Funny thinking how gay-artsy that store is...

I have heard that Cinemark didn't want to screen "Milk" and donated a lot of money to the Prop 8 in California. Is that true?

manhunt.com has donated to the max to McCain's Presidential campaign.

Yes. This means cancel your subscription, even if you don't pay anything because numbers attract sponsorships and advertisement.

Coincidentally, I just found this out today!!

I remember that boycott. Some of the theaters did screen Milk but donated a lot of money to Prop 8. There are more than a few businesses that will take your money and stab you in the back with it.

Anyone ever here the phrase, Keep your friends close but your enemies closer. Same principal, unfortunately in order to get things moving along you have to dance with the devil and strategically choose your battles.

Besides, Donut's and Auntie Annie's should be a dietary no no. Eat an apple.

So you end up getting enough boycotts and they "change their views." Do you think they really changed their views or are just kissing our asses for profit? Does it really make a difference? Billy Bob in management knows he cant fire someone for being gay but he will find another reason. Rockstar energy drinks can come out with a PrideStar but do you actually think the owners and employees still arent saying "Faggot" every time they make one? You think they are all holding hands and singing "we are the world" and reaching out to the gay world now cause we didnt drink their product and caused them minor MINOR financial setbacks? This is as effective as writing senators about gay rights. Yeah like that really works. Millions of protestors didnt do much. And a letter will? They wouldnt cut their own throats and throw away supporters and their cash so we can be married, etc. Lets all click our heels together and wish three times the world loved us and we had equal rights. Even though there are anti discrimination laws to protect us, guess what? The landlord, employer, neighbor, etc is still gonna find another way to fuck us. Its not gonna take boycotts and letters and riots/protests. Its gonna take TIME to get bubba joe out of government and youngminded people in there. Then you will see some change in the world and how we are treated.

who cares, if you like their product buy it. 1% 0f the 10% that are gay may do this, so thats like what, 8 people. These corporations dont give a shit and laugh at the gay interest, trust me, I work for a multi-billion dollar company and have seen first hand how the executive react when the gay community protests, "fuck em"

Yup, we should just keep on buying from and supporting these companies because we can't change their minds or run them out of business. We shouldn't ask for our rights because the politicians that would put them into law would just be doing so for the sake of political expediency and our campaign contributions. Yup, we should just sit back and shut up because the world is so cynical and disingenuous it's not worth making the effort. We should just do and say nothing because that's the best way to get people to change their minds. If we just stay out of the way and hope real hard, people in power will do the right thing.icon_lol.gif

Believe it or not, that's progress. It establishes that you can't hate us in public. For every Bill Bob who has to mask his bigotry, there are dozens of others who don't learn from him that it's OK to be a bigot. It may be fake-it-until-they-make-it, but appearances count.

I HATE Exxon. They TOOK AWAY the benefits of same sex couples when merging with Mobil. They spend no money developing cleaner technologies like all the other oil companies do. The HRC score for Exxon is '0'....that is zero out of 100 points....they are truly....as Christians would say..... evil.

Don't wait for your tank to be empty when filling your tank so that you don't have to go to those stations.

Well, I feel the same way about them. I will not spend money on those products. There are pleanty of good companies and products to spend money on. And if those terrible companies end up disapearing instead of changing....there will be no love lost here.

OK, laugh if you like, but we asked our Moms about this.

    You know what they said?
"Vote at the cash register." Especially in times where Co.s are going under your buying power is just that; power. If everyone thinks that 'just me won't accomplish anything' then it won't.

My Mom wants to remind you guys that when she and Bill's Mom were young Moms boycotting was like a slap across the privates (her words) of a business, especially once it caught on...

    -Doug of meninlove

...slap across the privates, oooh owww...lol
