already know iran's policies on gays (broad stroke i know), but wanted some insight on how open above demographic is to gays..

this client is second generation and we're talking LA here for fuck's sake, so i'm sure he's generally open, but just wanted to hear if any persians on the board

Well all i can say is...

being persian does not make one muslim. keep that in mind.

most iranians that were iffy with the new (current) regime and could - left iran years ago.

if you are persian living in the states - especially in LA - i'm going to take a wild guess and say they are _NOTHING_ like the conservative folks living back in Iran now. I can't imagine any hardcore muslim-persians putting up with living in LA....

does he/she drink? is he/she married? if he, does his wife (or if she, does she) wear the hijab (scarf, headcover, whatever you wanna call it)

no head-cover = dead giveaway. They are NOT conservative.

Now keep in mind that anyone can hate gays, including tons of everyday americans, so don't assume that just because they are from overseas they will all act one way. Humans is Humans - no two quite the same.

metta8 - they're my clients so i take interest to customs, otherwise..could give 2 shits

cobalt - thanks for reinforcing my gut...yes, majority of persians they introduced me to were jewish..got the sense that this was majority in bh/west la..

the sons who now run the company are as socially liberal as you can get ..

initial dichotomy arose in that it's a family enterprise so i deal with their dads/uncles who tend to be more "conservative," but i think by conservative they meant heavy on education, respect for elders/family, etc rather than beat a bitch for showing her face on wilshire blvd.

The Perisans/Iranians I've met in LA tend to be a bit conservative (by gay standards), but overall they are FAR more open minded than those seen shouting on TV.

Persians are great folks, easy going, well mannered, and strongly family oriented (tight knit bunch). If you have an "in" that may help ;-) Those I've met in LA were big drinkers, some into coke, and plenty into 420.
