I'm too masculine to read articles written by women.

"I really like you. I do. You're so nice, and sweet, and you listen to all my problems and respond with the appropriate compliments. But, well, I don't really see a relationship in our future. It would be terrible if we let sex destroy this great friendship we have where I get everything I want and you get nothing you want. Don't you think?"

I'm guessing I'll be hearing those lines a lot when I start dating.

Oh and tell your mom I said Hi back.

She really is right. If you can be really close friends there might not be enough mystery and personality differences for each to find the other intriguing. If you can finish the other's sentences there would never be any surprises possible.

The Onion is a satirical publication. They are calling out a certain type of individual. It is purely fictional, done for laughs.

As the "editorial" moves along, the girl gets more and more evil.

I'm wondering if anyone has ever known any men in the gay community who resemble this caricature.

Above was my opinion on this topic, not hers. She may be joking but I'm talking about real life dating.

I guess I've always been a "friends first" kind of guy.

Friends first works, but not "really close" friends. You don't know all the secrets yet, and you never do if the guy is different enough from you. But the process of getting to know these secrets and being surprised by them are what makes it intriguing.

On the one extreme you have infatuation because the guy is so different from you that you can't figure him out, on the other extreme you have someone who's like a sister to you and you don't get the excitement of discovery from him.
