Vice President Joe Biden promised gay and lesbian Democrats that the White House will push harder on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and other LGBT issues.

Biden spoke [Friday] night at a controversial LGBT fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee. He said he understood the anger of many gays and lesbians toward the Obama administration and pledged to “put some pace on the ball.”

“I don’t blame you for your impatience,” Biden said. “I hope you don’t doubt the president’s commitment.” ...

Biden said the White House is committed to “the unfinished business of true equality.”

Biden well knows how to use many words to say nothing. Choosing him to represent the White House at the fundraiser is a message in itself.

The problem is, even if they fully intend to change things at some point, they are too afraid to risk their personal safety in politics, but yet we the GLBT community endure the risks of our personal safety on a daily basis with inequality. Shameful.

I loved the part in the article where it says, "No president possesses that magic wand, but Obama’s inaction on gay civil rights is striking. So is his utterly uncharacteristic inarticulateness."

This is Obama's achilles' heel, As articulate as he is in his speeches, whenever he doesn't sound astute in any subject, you know that he doesn't believe in whatever he's saying at that moment.

When the Dems do act now, they are gonna get a great big "about time." If they had acted before, they would have been lauded with kudos. We shouldnt have had to be put in the position of demanding our rights by the Democrats after supporting them for so many years.

Good for you, Joe. And uh - thank you so much for your kind consideration of our position. Tell your boss also that we appreciate his keeping his word - yes, all the promises he made across the country - saying anything - anything to get some more votes. Joe - we appreciate all your calls for patience. We'll give your words the full attention they deserve. Let's just see if you and your boss get in again. Make a fool of us once - shame on you. Make a fool of us twice - shame on us.

Like that's ever going to happen. Obama has no problem ignoring laws he doesn't want to enforce, as long as they don't have anything to do with gays. They are seeking a "durable" solution but are adamantly opposed to taking any kind of action that would put a stop to the discharges temporarily:

GIBBS: Well, the President has had meetings about this, has talked with members of Congress. His staff has talked with members of Congress. All of them have talked to Pentagon officials and the administration believes that this requires a durable, legislative solution, and is pursing that in Congress.

Q: I understand that for the long-term solution, but what do you take issue with about signing an executive order that will suspend the separations before an endurable solution is reached through the slow legislative process?

GIBBS: I mean, I think there could be differences on strategy. I think our belief is that the only and best way to do this is through a durable, comprehensive legislative process.

They are so afraid of making conservatives angry, but fail to realize that anything he does will make them angry, so he should just grow a spine and get over it. Have some principles for once besides a misguided attempt to find "common ground" on the issue of fundamental equality.

And as far as we go, I suppose we should be glad that Republicans are "letting us exist" at all...

As for the VP, it's an open question about whether he has any idea what the problem actually is, since the policy circle is devoid of GLBT people and we are the only minority group without our own outreach liaison.

Amazing. Now that the party is starting to see a massive backlash from it's supporters they, once again, start making promises.

The President is waiting for Congress to put forth legislation overturning DADT, the Congress is waiting for guidance and leadership from the President... They all have an 'out' that allows continued inaction. The fact that this is still an issue is shameful and the total lack of leadership by the President is sickening!

I think they are all full of shit.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: To quote Lewis Black "you basically walk into the voting booth with two handsfull of dogshit and you have to decide which smells less than the other."
