***Sorry there may be movie spoilers***

Okay, we have had a number of threads that are about different gay films but I am looking for some that are more positive orientated. It seems that the filmmakers are still going by the old standards and having really depressing endings to gay movies. Recently I have watched Mulligans, Bangkok Love Story, Relax...It's Just Sex, Were the World Mine, and I Dreamt Under the Water.

Relax...It's Just Sex and Were the World Mine were the only ones that came close. Others that I can think of right now are Big Eden and Broadway Damage.

Were the World Mine - It is about a high school putting on an all male musical of A Midsummer Night's Dream and the main character who plays Puck ends up casting a spell that allows him to turn people gay. All in all it is a great film that only suffers from a lack of budget to truly make the magical scenes it needed.

Bangkok Love Story - I just never want to watch that ending again. Great film. Great directing. Just turn it off after the kiss at the end and walk away. It did make a good case on why there should be laws to protect people that are not HIV positive though. How can you not like one of the hot stars of the film:

    chaiwat Pictures, Images and Photos

Mulligans - If you have seen it you know why it's not a happy movie.

I Dreamt Under the Water - It was so depressing throughout it that I could barely watch it and I did skip to the end. Like a lot of foreign films it didn't even really end. It isn't a full on porn but definitely would not be considered soft porn either with a couple of the scenes. It is about a guy who loses the guy he loves through a drug overdose so he becomes a rent boy and starts becoming attached to his clients because he desperately wants to find love. Then he falls in love with this girl that turns out disastrous.

So, are there any gay movies that end happily and not death or the destruction of a family?

Bangkok Love Story, definitely one of the WORST endings ever. Ruined everything.

Agreed with your picks and your review on I Dreamt Under The Water. icon_smile.gif Didn't like Were the World Mine that well though.

For my favorite feel-good gay movies, the list (those with gay couples as the main protagonists only. Although I have more faves for gay-interest/trans/drag films):

    All Over The Guy
    Shelter
    Maurice
    Trick
    Beautiful Thing
    Big Eden
    Just A Question of Love
    Outing Riley
    Guys & Balls
    Broadway Damage
    Bedrooms & Hallways
    East Side Story
    24 Nights
    Kiss The Bride
    Patrik 1.5
    Breakfast with Scot

I'm sure there are some I've missed...

I thought "Latter Days" had a happy ending. It had some real downers getting there though.

ZOMG! The Wedding Banquet is such a good, happy movie. It is directed by Ang Lee (who did Brokeback Mountain). It is about a gay man who is nagged by his Chinese parents to get married constantly. So, he and his boyfriend agrees that he will marry a female friend of theirs who is having a similar problem.

Hilarity and poignant moments ensue. It is a wonderful, touching movie.

Well for silly gay exuberance you should consider:

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
    The Birdcage

The endings are both happy, and fabulous.

Aww, Big Eden's such a cute movie. I'm not normally too enthusiastic about the gay movie genre, but I did bully friends and family into watching that one.

I found this interesting YouTube compilation from Priscilla. If nothing else, it proves what great actors these 3 guys are. The aging tranny is Terrance Stamp, who played General Zod in the original Superman movies. Then there's Hugo Weaving as Mitzi, who's more recent roles include Elrond in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Youngest here is Guy Pearce, famous as the amoral police department career climber in "LA Confidential." What incredible talent, that they can do anything.

Latter Days and Shelter are happy movies.

I just rented "Were the World Mine". I've been told good things.

Also, not necessarily a GBLT movie, but it has GBLT themes is "Km.0"
(Kilometer zero). Its a Spanish flick that is happy too!

You know, you just took the words right out of my mouth, with the Sum of Us. I also have to admit it's one of the few movies with that Kiwi ass, Russell Crown in.

I also found latter Days moving, and it has a happy ending.

I showed to to some Mormons, and they were out raged.

Anything that outrages Mormons is always worth recommending.

Great! Thanks guys. I will add them to my Netflix que. Some of those I haven't seen or forgotten about so I can watch them again. I have Beautiful Thing and Trick on VHS of all things. I'll have to see if I can get my VCR to work if it still works.
